Something dramatic just happened in Israel—and nobody is talking about it.Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz announced that he and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu instructed the IDF to prepare for the possibility of “all-out war” against the Palestinian Authority if PA security forces launch—or Israel knows they are about to launch—an October 7-style attack against Israeli communities and IDF forces.

Think about what that means.

For 30 years, the world has demanded that Israel treat the Palestinian Authority as a “peace partner” and the foundation of a future Palestinian state.

Now Israel is preparing for the possibility of fighting the PA’s own armed security forces.

The danger is particularly alarming because of geography. Unlike Gaza, Palestinian Authority-controlled areas in Judea and Samaria sit immediately adjacent to major Israeli population centers. Jerusalem, Kfar Saba, Petah Tikva, Rosh Ha’ayin and other Israeli cities could face a radically different threat environment if PA forces ever turned their weapons against Israel.

October 7 taught Israel a devastating lesson: knowing an enemy is building military capabilities is not enough. Waiting for an attack can have catastrophic consequences.

So Israel must confront a critical question:

If the threat from the Palestinian Authority is serious enough to prepare for all-out war, what should Israel do about that threat before another October 7 scenario becomes possible

Thirty years after the Oslo Accords, the debate over the Palestinian Authority, Israeli security and the future of Judea and Samaria may be entering a fundamentally different phase.

My heart aches.

Hours before the Yom Kippur holiday, the holiest day to the Jewish people, while I was out on IDF reserve patrol in the Judean Hills, we were placed on heightened alert after a deadly shooting attack near the Jewish community of Neve Tzuf in the Binyamin region of Samaria.

Then came the devastating news: Netanel Shakron הי״ד, a father of six from Alei Zahav, had been murdered.

The circumstances are heartbreaking.

On the eve of Yom Kippur, the holiest day of the Jewish year, Netanel went with his eldest son to a natural spring to immerse and spiritually prepare himself for the holy day.

A terrorist opened fire.

Netanel was murdered. His son survived.

Think about that son. He went with his father to prepare for Yom Kippur—and returned home without him.

Yet while Jews continue to face terrorism in Judea and Samaria, so much international attention remains focused on the politically charged narrative of “settler violence.”

Jews living in Judea and Samaria are raising families, building communities, praying and living in places deeply rooted in Jewish history and the Bible. This family went to a spring before Yom Kippur. A husband and father never came home.

Netanel leaves behind a wife and six children.

May Hashem comfort his family among the mourners of Zion and Jerusalem. May He protect the IDF soldiers standing guard over Jewish communities throughout Israel, Judea and Samaria.

Jared Kushner says Israelis are being “a little irrational” about Gaza. Then he admits: “We’re now starting to understand the scope of the militarization of Gaza. It is beyond your comprehension.”

NOW starting to understand, after October 7, after nearly three years of war, after IDF soldiers uncovered Hamas tunnels, weapons caches, and command centers under homes, mosques, hospitals, and schools across the Gaza Strip?

Then Kushner says something else: “We worked with Hamas for over four months.” Hamas supposedly signed a deal to demilitarize.

Seriously?

Hamas planned and carried out the October 7 massacre. It is a jihadist terror organization sworn to Israel’s destruction. You do not negotiate our children’s future with Islamonazis. You defeat them.

Washington spent months talking to Hamas, now admits it is only beginning to grasp how militarized Gaza really was — and still calls Israelis irrational for refusing another “demilitarization” promise. Kushner has it backward.

The old Gaza paradigm is dead. In 2005 Israel expelled nearly 10,000 Jews, destroyed 21 communities in Gush Katif, and pulled every soldier out of Gaza. We were promised peace. We got Hamas, rockets, terror tunnels, and October 7. Never again.

That awakening is already in this Israeli election: Itamar Ben-Gvir’s push for a ministry to facilitate Gazan emigration; Ofer Winter; Moshe Feiglin; Netanyahu’s appointment of Gila Gamliel after President Trump raised relocation in January 2025. Avida Bechar of Kibbutz Be’eri, wife and son murdered on October 7, from the peace-seeking envelope — says Israelis will never be safe if one jihadi remains in Gaza. That is not irrational. That is October 7 clarity.

Use American leverage on Egypt to open Rafah for those who leave. Destroy Hamas and every jihadist army. Correct 2005. Rebuild Jewish Gaza, bigger and stronger than Gush Katif. Jewish homes, fields, children, and yes, a beachfront in Jewish Gaza.

We are not the irrational ones. Ignoring 1,400 years of jihad against non-Muslims is irrational.
