  • E195: Let marriage help you grow

Maybe the greatest gift of marriage is that it helps us to grow as a person. If we do not mature we can live our life stuck in our pride, selfishness, and our blind spots.

If we allow marriage to mature us we will reap great benefit. We become better for everyone.

Two requirements for a functioning relationship with your spouse:
    1. Offer them a customer service desk and allow them to voice their concerns.
    2. Go to the customer service and voice your concerns.

  • E192: How Honesty Sets Your Marriage Free

In this episode Mark and Adena talk about a conversation that happened on a road trip. Many people are afraid of deep honesty...even with their spouse. But deep honesty can lead to real freedom.

On the road trip Mark told Adena "It's not you, it's just me." Adena shared what she meant by this statement.

    1. Instead of being honest about yourself, it's much easier to blame someone else.
    2. Honesty is powerful. You feel so loved when you are honest and they want to love you, even when you are weak or messy. That creates a bold connection.
    3. Being honest that "it’s just me" can be hard, but both of you understand that it is because you love them. If you have a safe place to be real, you both benefit from it.
    4. If we’re OK with the truth that "it’s just me" it brings a freedom in the relationship that you can’t have without it.
