Philippians 4:6-7

Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.

I started with this verse in the last episode too. The word "first" wouldn't let me move on so quickly. We know what first means, but I looked it up anyway. 

FIRST - Particularly of place, order, time, first of all.

Before my work, before my appointments, before my phone and all the things that entice my first attention. Help me and us to seek Him first.

John 15:9

As the Father has loved Me, so have I loved you. Abide in My love. 

I have sometimes wondered if I need to be reminded of His love too often. Shouldn’t I understand by now? After spending time with this verse, I realize in a brand new way that if I spend the rest of my life learning His love for me, I won’t regret a minute of my life.

The overflow of growing in His love is loving Him more and loving others better.

Psalms 84:3

Even the sparrow finds a home, and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may lay her young, at your altars, O LORD of hosts, my King and my God.

A swallow's flight pattern has a much more anxious vibe than a simple sparrow. Yet the psalmist observed they both find a home in the house of God. So it is with us. When we make our home with Him, He takes us as we are.

Psalms 73:25-26

Whom have I in heaven but You? And besides You, I desire nothing on earth. My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.

I’ll talk to you about how peach pie helped me understand this verse.

Colossians 3:2

Let heaven fill your thoughts. Do not only think about things down here on earth.

I will also share how I took this verse literally and filled my mind and journal with thoughts of heaven. After a small inward battle, I decided to read straight from my journal.

Isaiah 61:1

The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me,

because the LORD has anointed me

to proclaim good news to the poor.

The description of Jesus in Isaiah 61 takes me right to the heart of who I know Him to be.

With a true glimpse of Him, all other sources of news take a lesser place.

Ephesians 1:4 

Long ago, even before He made the world, God loved us and chose us-

What a breathtaking thought. 

Before the world began, God wanted us with Him. 

Wait, take a minute. Five, sixty, or more minutes, and think about it. 

It may just refresh your desire, as it has mine, to live the life He designed us to live.

Matthew 5:6

When I was young in my faith, this was the first verse I experienced God speaking right to me. Hunger and thirst explained what I didn’t have words for, and Jesus said I would be blessed for it.  

I held tight to this hope. 

All these years later, I am still learning the signals when my hunger and thirst are misguided. It’s something like the way I would pant after running up ten flights of stairs. You’ll have to listen.
