Umar Khalid has been in jail since 14 September 2020. He has been denied bail, again and again. In this video, Umar’s friends read out excerpts from a piece he wrote from inside Tihar Jail for The Quint.
From referencing Dostoyevsky’s The House of the Dead to telling the story of a prisoner who spent 29 years in jail without parole, Umar Khalid writes about hope, despair, and what it means to live between life and death.
The video also chronicles five years of delayed hearings and postponed justice — a reminder that sometimes, not even time can break someone’s spirit.
