We were so inspired by Glenaan O'Neil of the Lone Star Victims Advocacy Project, who is cheerfully persisting first after battling cancer and then after having funding pulled for her fledgling nonprofit. We love her hilarious self and her mission of advocating for immigrant victims of domestic abuse in rural Texas. Plus, Ed Scruggs of Texas Gun Sense is back to explain "red flag laws" and "mandatory buy-backs." The incredible folks at the Texas Freedom Network are looking out for all the peens and vags (and everything in between), and they tell us how to help.

Since its debut, it has continued to be our most-downloaded episode. In the midst of the horrors at the border, it is comforting that so many people want to know how they can stop them. We ourselves were desperate to understand what was happening to child migrants and how we could help, so we made an episode all about just that. Plus, in a surreal twist of fate, Becky's pansexual stan Texas State Rep. Mary González (who inspired Becky to come out on our June 21 episode) represents the district where the Clint facility is (the one that made news this summer). Rep. González is our special guest along with guest host Dr. Cheasty Anderson, one of the most knowledgeable humans on the topic of child detention.

While we're on break, we're revisiting some of our favorite episodes from Season 1. This week, Wendy Davis officially filed to be on the ballot for U.S. Congress in Texas's 21st district (Becky's district!). We thought a proper way to celebrate was to re-play one of our favorite interviews -- the one where Wendy made her first ever public mention that she was considering running for this seat. She also talks lessons learned from run for governor in 2014, and how a "painfully shy" book-loving little girl grows up to become a modern feminist icon and rabble rouser. Plus, we wade into the "Creepy Uncle Joe"-infested waters and discuss intent vs impact. We also get a primer in how our Texas schools get their dollar bills and learn about HB3, the most comprehensive school funding legislation Texas has passed in decades (no thanks to Rep. Jonathan Stickland, the lone "no" vote). And so much more!

WHEW, y'all. This is our fav (& final!) episode of season one. By some Texas-sized miracle, we got to talk with Emily Ramshaw mere hours after she announced she'll be leaving her post as editor-in-chief of the Texas Tribune to create a new non-profit media venture at the intersection of women, politics and policy right here in Austin, TX. It's a don't-miss conversation. We put political F-M-K in the capable hands of some of our sheroes and paid them back with The Rabble's first ever awards. For our last episode before the LIVE FINALE (!!!) we sat down with immigration activist Joshua Rubin to talk about what makes someone decide that they need to be on the front lines of an issue, no matter the cost. Josh, founder of Witness: Tornillo and a major reason why they closed those camps, believes that love is what kept his fire burning even after his hope was gone. We also learned about swing states (ahem, TEXAS) from Swing Left, and got revved up to make another push to protect DACA.

We're all about getting Texans to TAKE ACTION - but first we need to GET EDUCATED! This week we dove into recent developments in public school closures, and got lessons in the history of systemic inequity from the UT Institute for Urban Policy and Research. We also got to sit down with US Senate Candidate Amanda Edwards (in between her call-filled campaign road trips) to discuss the new generation of senators - electeds who are connected to their constituents, even all the way from DC. She's all about RESULTS, and we're here for it.

Judging from the Halloween-week drama in the Lone Star State, there's nothing that Texas Republicans find scarier than... CITIES! And... DEMOCRATS! No wonder Gov. Abbott and (soon-to-be-ex) Texas House Speaker Dennis Bonnen are so spooked by Austin. We had a great talk with Austin's Mayor Steve Adler on the city's plan to house rather than hide our neighbors experiencing homelessness as well as Speaker Bonnen's "dumbass mayors" comment. Also, we spent Halloween at the Capitol listening to ghost stories because of course we did.

We're down with AOC (yeah, you know me)... and apparently she's down with TX! Especially young, progressive Latina Jessica Cisneros running in TX-28. Plus, the Green New Deal is already starting right here in ATX. And we get deeper into race relations and policing in the wake of Atatiana Jefferson's death with local legend Nelson Linder, president of the Austin chapter of the NAACP.
