There have been a lot of conversations locally and nationally lately about the topic of homelessness, but not enough of those conversations have included the true experts... people who have experienced homelessness. We are so grateful to Abie for sharing her story and wish her good luck on her LSATs!

We get a preview of the hilarious political comedy show based on the stranger-than-fiction antics of the Texas legislature, "Over the Lege," from its creator Stephanie Chiarello. Plus, we fall hard for all the Climate Strikers leading the charge against climate change. We learn about good things happening for women in Texas prisons and how we can keep bad things from happening to transwomen.

We snuck a special guest into the studio to help us out with FMK this week... Ed Scruggs of Texas Gun Sense is back to explain "red flag laws" and "mandatory buy-backs." As Beto would say, "Hell yes!" to those. And a big "f*ck no" to teaching nothin' but abstinence in Texas schools. The incredible folks at the Texas Freedom Network are looking out for all the peens and vags (and everything in between), and they tell us how to help. Our new friend Glenaan O'Neil of the Lone Star Victims Advocacy Project teaches how to be cheerfully persistent, and we want to raise money to help her continue serving immigrant victims of abuse in rural Texas.

Abortion rights activist and comedy goddess Lizz Winstead (co-creator and original head writer of The Daily Show!) fangirls with us over Molly Ivins and stresses humor as an important tool of the revolution. We marry all you beautiful souls who showed up to speak out against gerrymandering this week, but we mourn the loss of far too many polling locations in Texas. Also, something weird is going on with Arnold Schwarzenegger & Eric Holder...

We talk about some things you can do for the environment beyond swearing off straws. Plus, some things you can do about gun violence beyond what our lawmakers have done (aka nothing). Oh, and we discuss some things you can do about homelessness besides posting angrily in NextDoor about how you don't like seeing people who are experiencing homelessness. We invited founder of Citizen Discourse, Karen Gross, to give us some tips. Plus, happy birthday to the matron saint of The Rabble, Ann Richards! And we learn about some dirty tricks Texas Republicans are pulling to try and hang onto power.

She also talks about why running as the mom of a 2-year-old is an asset and not a disadvantage, and lessons learned from Beto's Senate race. Plus, we learn about dark connections between El Paso and Nazi Germany, shifting demographics in Texas, and some marriage-worthy stuff the Austin city council is up to.

We made a mistake last week. We failed to put enough focus on the real story of the El Paso shooting -- that it was the largest massacre of Latinx people in modern American history. This week, we try to make it right. We shout out orgs building Latinx power in Texas, speak with El Paso attorney and legend of immigration law Carlos Spector, and highlight brave Latinx Texans who aren't taking any mierda. Plus, learn how showing up to city council meetings can make you internet famous! (a la Green Shirt Guy).

We're heartbroken and outraged along with El Paso and the rest of Texas this week. We're desperate to know what to do about this gun violence epidemic, so we sat down with Ed Scruggs, president of Texas Gun Sense, to learn comebacks to some of these NRA talking points we hear our crazy uncles spouting. We also talk white supremacy, police racism in Galveston, and some good news, too -- the #Texodus of Republicans from Congress and some wonderful things our listeners did for our "Politics Is Personal" guest Ann Finch's organization, Team Brownsville.
