In Bonus episode of The Radical Rebuild Podcast, formerly known as Gastric mindset, host Safi Abdi sits down with Lizzie the reigning Missy Bariatric, for a raw and inspiring conversation about weight loss surgery, mental health recovery, and the emotional journey that follows a major body transformation.
Lizzie opens up about her experience with weight loss surgery and skin removal, sharing how these physical changes brought long-hidden emotional wounds to the surface. She talks honestly about navigating self-esteem struggles, childhood trauma, and the ongoing process of self-healing. Her story shows that surgery can be a catalyst for transformation, but true healing comes from doing the inner work.
Beyond her personal journey, Lizzie discusses her dream of opening a dementia café, highlighting the power of community support and human connection. She also reflects on her unexpected path into the beauty pageant world, using her platform to empower others and challenge stigma.
This episode is a beautiful blend of vulnerability, strength, and hope reminding us that we can rewrite our story, no matter where we started.
Life is too short not to follow your dreams.
Weight loss surgery is a tool, not a complete solution.
Skin removal can bring physical relief but also emotional challenges.
Self-healing requires facing deep-rooted trauma.
You can transform your life regardless of your past.
Self-belief and self-esteem grow through intentional practice.
Community support can be more powerful than family support.
Gratitude is a key driver for personal growth and happiness.
Boundaries and self-care are essential for healing.
Determination and support can help you achieve anything.
This Eating Disorder Awareness Week, I'm joined by a binge eating disorder recovery coach with 17 years in recovery, and we’re diving deep into the dilemma of treating obesity without sacrificing eating disorder recovery.
With the rise of GLP-1 weight loss injections, more people are turning to medication to "quieten the food noise"—but at what cost? Are these drugs a long-term solution or just a temporary plaster over a deeper issue?
In this candid conversation, we unpack:
🔹 The psychological risks of GLP-1s for people with a history of binge eating.
🔹 Why true healing from binge eating takes more than suppressing appetite.
🔹 The missing conversation in obesity treatment—what’s being overlooked?
🔹 How to break free from food obsession in a way that lasts.
If you’ve ever felt trapped in the cycle of dieting, binge eating, and seeking a quick fix, this episode is a must-listen. Let’s talk about real recovery, not just weight loss.

Hey lovely listeners!
In this solo episode, I'm diving into why food cravings and that general "wanting" for certain foods often come back around the two-year mark after making changes. We'll explore how to get back on track when that happens, and why it's crucial to do the "mental work" to maintain healthy habits.
We'll also bust the myth of the "pouch reset" – it's just another short-lived fad diet with no real benefits.
Finally, I'll share some personal strategies that helped me become more aware of my own food desires, distinguishing between head hunger, mouth hunger, and emotional hunger.
