We reported yesterday that the Rolling Stones tour was to be postponed for an unidentified medical procuedure Mike Jagger needed to have… it’s now been identified. The 75 year old Jagger will be having surgery to replace a heart valve this Friday, but is expected to make a full recovery and resume touring this summer.
Word came yesterday afternoon that after the LAPD had identified a suspect in the shooting death of rapper Nipsey Hussle… They tracked him down and captured him. They say 29 Year Old Eric Holder is their guy, that he and Hussle knew each other prior to their dispute, and that Holder fled the scene after shooting and killing the rapper. Hussle was only 33 years old.
The Radio Advertising Bureau Mercury Awards have extended their deadline to enter. The new entry deadline is April 19th. They’ve added two new awards this year… Creative use of Sound or Music and Creative Use of Audio, which is open to agencies, production companies and advertisers in addition to radio stations… this is on top of the coveted Best of Show prize, whose winner receives $50,000. Similarly… Conclave has revealed their nominees and opened the polls for the 2019 Conclave Radio Awards. The polls close This Friday at 11:59p eastern and the winners will be revealed at Conclave, June 19-21 in Minneapolis. Details at TheConclave.com.
Reviver Entertainment group has announced they’ve got a new label imprint.. DAV-MO-RECORDS is named for Moe Shulman, the father of founder, President and CEO David Ross. Shulman has been around the records industry for EIGHTY years, having worked with legeldns like the Stones, Tom Jones, ZZ Top and more. The new imprint will include newly signed Thompson Square and Aaron Goodvin.
Finally … In tech news that should scare the bejesus out of you… Pandora is preparing beta testing ways for their listeners to interact with commercials via voice commands, for example, telling the app to skip a commercial if they’re not interested or requesting more information about a product if they are. For any radio person who’s ever had a client ask them to include “mention this ad to receive… whatever discount” in the production… well… Pandora basically is solving that dilemma. The advance of that technology will make things get pretty interesting pretty quickly.
