Oh… hello there. My name is Chris Kelly, former corporate radio Ops Manager and PD, turned director of programming for a cool imaging and branding company on the other side of the business, and now also executive producer and anchor of theRadioDaily.
Over the last several months, as we’ve been on the phone or been in meetings talking with industry movers and shakers about what theRadioDaily is to become, there’s been a common thread to each and every conversation we’ve had. It’s that our number one goal, each and every episode of the podcast, is to assemble the very best and brightest the radio and records industry has to offer. To share their experience, their advice, their knowledge and their fellowship with you, the listener.
Think of every episode of theRadioDaily as a shorter, audio only version of the tv show 60 Minutes but focused solely on the radio and records world… with a bit of industry news, then a handful of features loaded with inspiration, motivation or education each episode, created and produced to improve the greater good of the industry by moving it forward.
We wanted to create a platform where creative pros can collaborate and occasionally commiserate with their peers. Much like you’d go to a conference and sit in on a panel, listening to industry experts speak on topics they know so much about… this is just like that. Only in bite size audio chunks you can consume on your morning commute… packaged and anchored by us, but largely created for you, BY you.
Consider this an open casting call for the creative, the talented… an open casting call for the “doers.” We have many different ways for YOU to contribute content to an upcoming episode of theRadioDaily. From just contributing some news and information via press release like you’re used to, or sharing some audio from you or your station to lending your voiceover chops for our main titles or pitching an idea for a full blown feature – we want to collaborate with you!
You heard a friend of mine, Drew Carpenter, voice the main RadioDaily titles for this special trailer episode… EVERY episode will have a different VO artist, and you can submit your own version of those lines at theRadioDaily.com now. Think of it as a mass audience audition, free of charge, when your VO appears in an upcoming episode.
Say you’re flipping a format in the coming weeks and have produced the most amazing launch piece to get the new station off the ground… so let’s be honest… we really don’t produce launch pieces for listeners as much as we produce them our own benefit and to impress other radio people and/or scare our competition. So send it to us to share with the industry, alongside the format change write up you’ll get from all of our newsprint friends.
Most importantly… let’s say you have a Jerry Maguire moment where you’re sitting in your office, staring out the window, pondering something totally ground breaking. If only you had a platform to share it… well, now you do. Put your “Maguire Memo” into audio form and have it featured in an upcoming episode of theRadioDaily. Oh, he got fired for that? Yeah, bad example…
Point being… you’re a creative pro. Creative pros find creative ways to entertain, inform and CREATE COMPELLING CONTENT. Let’s do THAT. Let’s create compelling content for the industry, to help others in it also create more compelling content for their own listeners at home. The radio & records industry is a massive community… but still a small world… and we’ve created theRadioDaily to serve it proudly as an audio only, on demand channel for its citizens.
In other words… we are on the hunt for more FEATURE CONTRIBUTORS. These are three to eight minutes per episode… on the topic of your choice, written by you, produced by you and shared by us inside the friendly confines of the rest of theRadioDaily episode. It could be a one-off feature on something you’re passionate about… or it could be a series of feat...
