In this episode I interview the impressive and busy Gary Keogh PHd. In between teaching, lecturing, writing books, running marathons, making music, and becoming a doctor of Theology, Gary found time to talk to us about how we know things - Empiricism vs Rationalism, science verses religion, morality, proof for religious beliefs and his idea for a film. In a world distracted by FAKE NEWS this is an important conversation. We mention Plato, Aristotle, Aquinas, Popper, Hick, Dawkins, Copernicus, Galileo, Descartes - name drop central - did you spot any others? - we could play Bingo!
Below are the links to Dr. Keogh's books and Thesis!
Enjoy

In this episode I explore the idea of Narcissism. It is a slight diversion from my normal topics but one I think is helpful for all educators to be aware of, not only for their own experiences and relationships but also to potentially support children you come in contact with. It is a topic very close to my heart and is steeped in ideas about kindness which is central to all religions. In this episode I interview someone who has experience abuse at the hands of a narssicist. We talk about her ideas about what narssicism is, early warning signs, how to get help and how to recover. It is a deeply personal interview. For obvious reasons, names have not been used in this episode.

In this weeks episode I delve deep into the Ten Commandments, where did they come from, what do they mean, are they relevant to the 21st Century. In this episode I give a brief history of the Israelites, and take each commandment in commandment in turn and analyse it. I even sing and attempt to speak Hebrew. I also have some interesting facts from my lovely followers from Twitter.

In this episode I am joined by Ash Kundi and Molly Acharya to teach us how to decolonise the teaching of 'Hinduism'. We look at what we do right, how we can make our language more authentic, explaining the symbols - and we talk a lot about chicken! You'll need to listen to find out why!
Here is a quick glossary to support the episode;
Hindu dharma/dharam rather than Hinduism
Swasti for symbol, Use Hackenkreuz for nazi symbol
Su- (good) asti-(existence)
Murtis rather than Idols
Mandir not temple
Varna rather than Caste - coming from Portuguese word casta meaning lineage, colonial influence
Brahman - ultimate reality rather than god
Atman - inner self (pronounced atma)
Ganga rather than Ganges for the river

WARNING: THERE ARE FILM SPOILERS IN THIS EPISODE.
In this episode I invite Giles Gough from the God in Film Podcast to talk to us.
https://www.listennotes.com/podcasts/the-god-in-film-podcast-giles-gough-GUMQ3Eb1A60/
The God In Film Podcast is one of my favourite podcasts because it combines two of my greatest loves - Film and Religion. Giles, a Christian, is joined by his atheist friend, Phil, to dicscuss religious elements in film in a bitesized, accessible way.
On The RE Podcast, Giles talks about Messiah figures in films - focussing mainly on Captain America.
We also look at the dos and don't of using films in the classroom!
We would love to hear from you so please tweet Giles or I with your suggestions of characters you think represent the Messiah or to give give us your thoughts on the ones we have discussed.

In this weeks episode I interview five AMAZING young people from KS2-5 about why they think RE is an important subject in the 21st Century. The five of them are actually winners of an online blog competition for RE Online, answering the question 'Why does an education in Religion and Worldviews (R&W) matter? You can find all their entries on the link below.

In this episode we look at the legal and religious guidelines about sex including who can have it, when and for what purpose. We look at the attitudes of some of the main religions towards sex, and I suggest that maybe we should focus more on how to love! Warning, some of the content may not be suitable for younger listeners!
