The Reach More Podcast

In our last episode, we spoke with Carrie, a survivor of sexual abuse by a lay minister in the Church. She shared about her journey to find healing and why she created her own resources for people who are searching for a bridge back to the Body of Christ. In this episode, we discuss the key takeaways from that episode, including how to live as a good Samaritan and take care of the needs of those who have been wounded by fellow Christians, as well as how to be careful with our language when speaking with and listening to others so that we avoid re-traumatizing them.

You can't make old friends, so when you have a chance to grow closer to Jesus with one another, don't miss it! In this episode, we interview Wendi, a mom who found that she missed the interaction she had with her closest friends as her children graduated high school and volunteer opportunities dried up during the pandemic. After going through Reach More and with a little prompting from the Holy Spirit, she started a small group with her besties and some new ones. Now, they are living the Gospel and her friends are recognizing the people in their own lives they can reach out to.

What would it be like to evangelize in prisons? Find out in this interview as we talk with Jim, a Reach More participant who felt called to bring Jesus to the imprisoned (Matt 25:31-40). We discuss how he became a disciple, his career in education including a time in working as a teacher in correctional facilities, and how he discerned that God was asking him to volunteer for prison ministry in his diocese.

In this episode, Mari and Dan discuss how easy it is to give people resources that don't help them evangelize and how we can learn to give people the tools that they will actually use. They also talk about the importance of subsidiarity, or listening to the people closest to the situation to find out the best course of action. This is part of the follow-up to the conversation with Madeline from the Archdiocese for the Military Services, with whom The Evangelical Catholic has been working to bring the best resources to our troops and military families.

The AMS was established as an independent archdiocese by Pope Saint John Paul II in 1985 as the only Catholic jurisdiction responsible for endorsing and granting faculties for priests to serve as chaplains in the U.S. military and VA Medical Centers.

AMS-endorsed priests serve at more than 220 U.S. military installations in 29 countries, making the AMS the nation's only global archdiocese. AMS-endorsed chaplains also serve at 153 VA Medical Centers throughout the U.S.

The AMS service population also includes American Catholic civilians working for the federal government in 134 countries, but currently, due to limited resources, the AMS cannot adequately serve this population.

Worldwide, an estimated 1.8 million Catholics depend on the AMS to meet their spiritual and sacramental needs.

We discuss how our relationship with the Archdiocese for the Military Services (AMS) started and how it evolved over time to better meet the needs of our armed forces and their families.
