Ana kicks this episode off by talking about this book she's reading by Don Miguel Ruiz called The Voice of Knowledge, which is all about the voice in our head and the things we tell ourselves and how that can affect not only our recovery, but our overall well-being and self talk. This leads the conversation into more ego and thought identification talk, of course, as well as some other underlying responses.
Video game addicts? We chop it up about how the obsession of video games and other forms of checking out can be related to substance addiction. We try to escape our reality, put it before our obligations, and even go as far as let it affect our health. Behavioral addictions of all kinds, we address in this episode.
Is weakness a strength? Is it good to admit when you're wrong? Who is the stronger person, the one who admits all their faults or the one who says they have none? We discuss the downfalls of being right, failing to have accountability, and the obstacles that go along with coming clean about your past and defects in recovery. We are the lucky ones, the ones who hit such a low that we were driven to rise above. Everyone can use a program - something commonly said in recovery/support circles.
Lastly we explain tips and tricks to help address things like quitting smoking, or any behavior you want to make changes with. The dangers of addicts trying to moderate, some warning signs to look for or some stories from experience to share to help those who can't moderately use avoid a failed attempt they may not return from. We also get real about some of our own resistances to recovery and how it took for us to learn things the hard way, after trying like hell to do it our own way.
Come join us for our fourth episode of The Recovery Pod where we address the one thing that applies to recovery, the one area you need to focus on if you truly want to succeed, and the only thing you need to change; everything. The need for control, the gift of desperation, the resistance to change; all things that are considered in this "It's an Everything Podcast" because we feel recovery really is about so much more than the absence of substances, it's about healing the true problem - ourselves.
