Virtual Dugout App 

Recruit Me continually looks for free and inexpensive resources to help you get recruited and to get an athletic scholarship.  I came across a app called Virtual Dugout.  The Virtual Dugout app is a platform for high school baseball players offering honest information on college recruiting, showcases, equipment and travel teams.  This app caters to baseball, but there are some resources on the app that could help with other sports.  There are many ways to find colleges and there are some email templates too.  Building your college contact list and doing research on colleges and sports programs is a major part of your recruiting process.

Shawn Goosenberg, Northwestern University Baseball

Shawn Goosenberg, Chicago White Sox, Minor League

Today you get Part 1 of a 2 part interview with an ex-college baseball player and now a member of the Chicago White Sox organization.  Shawn Goosenberg finished his summer with the Birmingham Barons, the Double A affiliate of the White Sox.   Shawn moved from the Single A Winston-Salem team to the Birmingham team at the end of the season.  Shawn was a teammate of my older son Parker at Northwestern University.  Shawn and Parker were 2 of 7 recruits to the Wildcats.  Shawn played 3 seasons at Northwestern before being drafted in 2021 in the 19th round.  Shawn was a 2019 All-Big 10 Freshan Team selection and a 2019 All-Big 10 3rd Team selection.  The 2020 season was cancelled due to COVID and Shawn was named 1st Team All-Big 10.  He played 2B and Shortstop in college and excelled as 1 of the best hitters in the Big 10 conference.  

This episode covers Shawn's background, when and how he started his recruiting journey, how his family, his high school coach and his club coach helped in his recruitment, how he did camps, showcases and tournaments and how he ended up at Northwestern.

Anxiety and panic effects a majority of recruits and their families at some time during the journey.  It could be caused by not knowing when or how to start the process.  Or, that college coaches are not hanging out in the stands watching you, or, that you are not getting recruited by the college or the level of colleges you want to play for.

I came across EducatingAthletes.org, a 501C3, Non-Profit organization that helps direct potential student-athletes on all aspects of football recruiting and recruiting in general.  The video I first saw was a young man in a Northwestern polo talking about their recruiting plan.  This certainly caught my eye since my oldest son, Parker, played baseball for Northwestern from 2018 to 2022.
