Join me in The Red Treehouse as I begin reading one of the most well-known and beloved horror novels of all-time, Frankenstein, by Mary Shelley.
First published in 1818, Frankenstein by Mary Shelley, is a harrowing and scary story that explores ambition, moral and social responsibility, prejudice, and more.
At the time of publication, Frankenstein—and it’s 18-year-old female author—received a mixed, if not critical reception; with many of the reviews emphasizing Mary Shelley’s age and gender more than the novel itself.
Of course, this is ridiculous—because talent is not bound by our social constructs or stereotypes. Neither is it held captive by our age, gender
identity, or sexual preference. Creativity and imagination, when set free, allow us to soar to new heights and explore places, people, and situations that we may not be able to otherwise.
And therein lies the beauty of Mary Shelley’s novel—she dared to defy societal norms and expectations; instead, choosing to lead with her
imagination and heart—the result of which is by and large, one of the greatest pieces of literature and inarguably one of the most recognizable protagonists of all-time.
It is my absolute privilege and honor to bring Frankenstein to life over these next few weeks and episodes.
So sit back, turn down the lights, pull up the covers, and pay close attention as I read Frankenstein by Mary Shelley.
