The story of Pazuzu Algarad is truly wild and involves illicit drug use, his version of Satanism, a “to hell with everyone and everything” attitude, and murder. And it’s possible he may have been a serial killer.

Speculation aside, we know for certain he is responsible for the tragic deaths of at least two individuals, Joseph Wetzler and Tommy Dean Welch.

First published in 1907, The Voice in the Night by William Hope Hodgson, is a terrific short horror story that has been adapted several times over the past century-plus.

The story involves two boats, one with a small crew of sailors; the other, seemingly abandoned. A mysterious voice calls from the boat, asking for food; but, despite the sailor’s requests, refuses to come into the light.

Focusing on themes of corruption amidst the mysterious, and fear of the unknown, Hodgson’s tale can be read as a warning against betraying one’s morality in the face of mysterious circumstances. If you’re afraid of the dark, this story is guaranteed to keep you up at night!

The Annabelle movies, part of the larger Conjuring universe, introduced the cursed doll to the masses. And while the movies depict her as terrifying—and murderous—at first glance, she isn’t particularly striking or scary. And, since 1970, she has sat in a glass enclosure at Ed and Lorraine Warren’s Occult Museum in Monroe, Connecticut—with a warning at the bottom of the case that reads: “Warning, positively do not open.”

But how did a regular Raggedy Anne doll become a harbinger of evil?
