This week Paul Amos talks to two volunteers with FCA’s West Georgia chapter, area director Jonathan Karastury and Calvary Christian baseball coach Scott Donohoe, about FCA’s mission and how it tries to reach student-athletes and coaches alike. They also talk about their own experiences with sports and the defining moments that shaped their faith journeys.

Though he’s still young, Army recon platoon leader Josh Babb has faced plenty of difficulties and dilemmas, from identity struggles to an unhealthy dependence on pornography to the challenge of finding community when you’re in the military and frequently on the move. But Josh says he managed to find the answers to all of those challenges and more in scripture, and his relationship with the Lord has never been stronger. Josh talks with Nate Dewberry about how he found his identity in Christ and learned to resist the lures of the flesh, as well as his advice for fellow service members who face isolation and temptation as they live the nomadic life of a modern soldier.

The theme for August at The Redeemed is stories of hope and restoration. Paul Amos and Nate Dewberry give a brief introduction to that theme in this short edition of The Redeemed Man podcast, emphasizing the importance of sharing our stories with one another—both the stories of our sins and failings and the stories of our triumphs. Mike Malone’s life has certainly seen its share of challenges and low points, but none were more devastating than the cancer diagnosis he received in 2016. His treatment and recovery were long and at times painful, but over the course of that struggle, he learned things that transformed his life—how his prior experiences had prepared him for the battle; how he could let go of anger and bitterness he’d been carrying around for years; and how God was using cancer to help him become a better man. Mike talks with Nate Dewberry about all these revelations in this week’s podcast, as well as the importance of a loving wife and what we should really be looking for when we open the Bible.

Some “adrenaline junkies” chase their thrills by climbing mountains, racing cars, or skydiving. But the adrenaline rush that compulsive gamblers get from placing bets is even more addictive—and far more destructive. This week Nate Dewberry talks with a recovered gambling addict about how he got hooked, how he nearly lost everything, and how he overcame his addiction. The big key, he says, has been the loyal support of family and friends, who continue to help him resist temptation and fill the surprisingly large time void that gambling left behind.

Getting a glimpse of one of dad’s Playboy magazines is so common it’s treated as a rite of passage for many men, but beneath that patina of innocence lies the potential for real and lasting damage. Rev. Michael Cusick was first exposed to porn at age 4 and by his teen years was a full-blown porn addict; it continued to blossom into a sex addiction that nearly destroyed his marriage. But he turned his life around and founded Restoring the Soul, a ministry that combines therapeutic principles with scripture to help men overcome unhealthy sexual dependencies. Michael talks with Paul Amos in this week’s podcast about the real damage porn addiction can do and how men can break free of it to lead more fulfilling lives.

Jeff Struecker’s 23-year career in the United States Army has taken him from the training grounds of Fort Moore to the bloody streets of Iraq and Somalia.
