There are things happening in my life currently that may hinder my ability to publish a new daily episode in the coming weeks.  Am I bummed about it?  Not really. 

While daily content publishing is important to me and the goal of hitting 365 days of continual podcasting is still something I want to achieve, I know there are more important things in life than my work. 

Also, just because I miss a day or two here and there doesn’t mean I’ll lose all my progress.  It’s really just a matter of picking up where I left off.  My audiences will still be engaged.  My visibility and online presence won’t have just disappeared.  And the skillsets I’ve developed and honed will always be with me.

If I do miss a day, understand that it’s me exercising boundaries between my work and the things that truly matter in my life.  Yes my work and my content publishing and marketing matter.  But the things I’m doing all of this work for matter more.

Social media is still used for “social” purposes — content that keeps peer groups connected through status updates.  These snapshots give people a peak into each others’ lives.  And that’s all well and good.

If you intend to use the social platforms for content marketing however, you have to shift away from broadcasting personal updates to content that is relevant to a much larger group of people.

Provide value in your content, the kind of value that will attract new audiences as well as keep your existing audience engaged.  Stop talking about yourself because that’s only relevant and interesting to a small select group of people. 

So broaden your content focus.  Provide value and service and you’re sure to be much more effective with your content strategy.

I’m outputting a lot of content.  On the surface it would seem impossibly to manage all of content I publish every day.  So here’s how I do it. 

I started with this podcast.  My goal was to publish a new episode every day for 100 days so I kept the process as simple as possible and just recorded everything on my phone. 

After a brief while I decided I might as well record a video version of the show so I can have daily content for my YouTube channel as well.  It was easy enough to pull the audio from the clips and use it as the podcast version. 

Once I got used to that level of output I began cutting the videos into shorter clips to use as reels on Instagram and other short form content platforms.

From there I then added original short form reels that weren’t cut from the podcasts videos.  And I’m also now doing carousel posts to add even more variety to my content publishing.

It’s a lot I know.  And I’m on all the major platforms too.  But I want you to understand that I built my way up to the level of content output, only adding a new thing when I was comfortably handling my current load. 

If you’re new I suggest just picking one platform and get a handle on publishing once a day.  Start with that as your baseline content flow and you can build from there.

I opened my Facebook this morning and saw a notification saying “Congratulations! You’ve earned the title of RISING CREATOR!”

Not that I needed it, but the occasional external recognition is nice once in a while, recognition of the consistent effort I’ve been putting in to grow my social profiles.

Consistency creates visibility, and visibility is how your audience finds you.  And believe me, they’re out there.

In this age of content creation, everyone has an audience.  The trick is to show up consistently on the platforms for that audience to find you.  Publishing regularly creates the visibility necessary for your audience to find you. 

There are people out there who are lookin lg for exactly what you’re sharing.  It’s just a matter of showing up consistently enough for them to find  you. 

So do the work. Show up every day and you too will one day be a Rising Creator!

Everything we do has an impact.  Whether you know it or not, whether you do it intentionally or not, you influencer anyone you interact with.

In a story told to me by a dear friend, even the smallest act of kindness can reverberate far beyond the act itself.  As he illustrated in his story, a warm smile from one stranger to another can through the ripple effect of human connectedness impact countless lives.

With the internet, your ability to make an impact is amplified and multiplied.  So I urge you to be really mindful of what you’re putting out there.  Be more purposeful and intentional with your content because it too will reverberate out far beyond yourself.

Delivering value in your content is paramount.  But, often people mistake the simple act of teaching as value delivered. 

And I get it.  The phrase “provide value” can elicit a reaction that you have to be a guru and an expert and to show and share that is be teaching.  But how you teach is just as important as the act of teaching itself. 

Sharing information as a professor might to their class, your content ends up flat and will fail to connect with audiences.  People need more than information to connect with, more than teaching. 

They want to know there’s a human behind the content.  They want context behind the principles they’re hearing.  If you share a little of yourself and your journey as it relates to the information, you give them exactly that.

I had an interaction recently on one of my social accounts that I thought warranted sharing with you… so that you can avoid making the same mistakes with your content marketing.

It seems that this individual’s strategy is to DM accounts that could potentially be good fits for the service they provide. In the message they highlighted all the feature and benefits of their service and how they can help me improve engagement on my account. 

I respectfully declined.  They accepted but respectfully asked in return if I could explain why I declined. 

And so I thought I’d answer in this episode. 

1) I’m not looking for that service.  I don’t want to outsource something I’ve not yet gained a mastery in.  Sure it would be a short cut, but it would also short cut my own growth and capability. 

2) I have no idea the value they bring.  Sure they stated as much in the DM, but that type of cold contacting doesn’t really work with me (and I’d wager with many others).  For this type of service, I want to know who I’m hiring and what they bring to the table. 

That’s what content marketing allows.  People opt in to more and more value until the eventuality of a financial exchange for further value.  It’s so much more effective a strategy because you’re attracting clients as opposed to cold contacting. 

Conversions will be higher and you won’t be limited by your ability to message people. 

If you want to do cold contacting, by all means go ahead.  But I suggest also making sure you have a content marking funnel as well to generate traffic that’s targeted and looking for your service.
