Reporting about news and politics sure can be a downer, most days.

Especially when you spend 12 to 15 hours daily, 365 days of the year doing it. Though I’m a pretty happy-go-lucky guy most of the time, it hits hard on certain days. I cannot mask everything dark and shitty that bothers me 100% of the time.

Today is one of those days. The news was brutal last night.

One story in particular had me in tears. I still quietly wept when writing my new article about it last night. My heart broke for teenaged young adult who didn’t deserve the hateful fate they received.

I thought of my own marginalized children who are close to that same age. I felt extreme sadness. And then rage. It hasn’t been a good day.

I’ll tell you all about it in today’s episode of our podcast. It helps to talk this out and get things like this tragedy off my chest. I have a difficult time balancing my emotions at times. This is one of the worst 24-hour periods of time I’ve had since I became a writer.

But I refuse to quit. I’ll never stop doing what I was born to do. No matter how badly it affects my mental health.

Amen, Steven Tyler. I remember that song well, back in 1992. I agreed with the sentiment then, and I still do, 34 years later. I cannot imagine being so goddamn greedy and soulless that I wouldn’t use my massive wealth to help others.

But you’ll have to ask Trump, Elon, Bill, Jeff, and Zuckerfuck about that.

It takes a certain type of person to exploit people enough to become a billionaire in the first place. And it takes a worse one to do nothing about starving children, homeless folks, veterans who are struggling, and warmongering politicians.

Billionaires don’t give a fuck if you live or die. Ditto about your families. It’s time that we force them to care.

Traitor Trump doesn’t care about people’s finances? Big shocker.

The selfish, greedy, entitled billionaire doesn’t give a damn that Americans are struggling financially? Gee, that’s so weird. (Not at all.) It’s actually quite on-brand for a disgusting, shitbag who is using the presidency to double or triple his net worth.

That’s right. The billionaire is now a multi-billionaire. He doesn’t give a fuck if you or your family live or die.

As long as he has his MAGA shitiots’ votes and money, he’s happy. The Count of Mostly Crisco doesn’t worry about the problems that normal, average Americans face daily. Choices he’d never have to concern himself with as a multi-billionaire.

It’s a sick world that we live in here in 2026. And it has everything to do with Scumdog Billionaire living completely detached from reality. He’s never had to endure the financial struggles that most of us deal with frequently.

I was downstairs with Mooch earlier today. It was unusually quiet. And I liked that.

As I was getting her lunch together after our short walk, I noticed her electric drinking dish making noticeable noise. It was calming, like a water fountain. I laughed as I caught myself talking in complete sentences to her, as I put her food in her dish.

It’s nice having alone time with the Mooch. We have a family of 5 adults living here. It’s not always quiet and peaceful. I love when my family is home, but I appreciate the times when it’s just me chatting with my small dog.

I could see myself being ok in the future if I were alone. Or with just a pet. Some folks find that kind of living sad. I certainly would never want to be without my Bride, but it’s a 50-50 chance that one of us will have to live that reality. At least for a short while, at minimum.

I thought about this today and talked about it in today’s podcast episode. If I had to hide out in the woods due to political unrest or violence, I feel that I could handle it. If I fled to another country to live simply, either with my Bride or alone, I think I’d thrive.

We get too wrapped up in the hustle and bustle of American living. I feel that the change of living remotely someday will be welcome in my later years. I’m curious how it all plays out if I’m fortunate to live that long.

Time will tell.

Hey, Mouthy Militia!

I decided to do a Substack Live about 10 minutes before I went live. I hadn’t planned on doing one today. It’s been about a month and a half or two. I felt rusty. I’d already published two articles and recorded and posted two podcast episodes. It would be easier to just move along with my day, as usual.

But Mooch said, “Let’s do this shit, Daddy. I miss our friends.”

And so it went. We were happy to show up and chat with you all. We’ve missed you. It was a great time and a pleasure to answer your questions. Mooch was even on camera more than usual. Her moods are pretty unpredictable, even after a peanut butter bone.

I tend to think, “No.” I don’t feel we’ve done nearly enough compared to the efforts of those who lived during the time of George Washington, John Adams, Ben Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, or Patrick Henry. I feel that we’ve gotten too soft over the past 250 years. We’re not built the same as those early patriots.

We aren’t going to rid ourselves of Trumpism by posting Internet memes.

Nobody gets to tell me how to run my goddamn Substack.

Though many have tried, none have succeeded in changing my writing or podcasting style. I’m not sure what they’re thinking when they leave the comments I see occasionally. It would never occur to me to tell a 51-year-old man or anyone of any age how to run their business.

It takes a lot of balls to presume to know what’s best for someone else.

I like myself, and how I choose to handle my shit. I talk about this in today’s episode. From the time I was a pastor’s son living in a very repressed home to a full-time political humor writer, podcaster, and content creator, I’ve always known what’s best for me.
