  • Bridging The Minority Gap With Intentional Relationships (w/ Hykeng Paul) - Episode 133

In today’s episode, we’re catching up with Hykeng Paul, the Director of Unity and Diversity at Newspring Church here in South Carolina. As a black man who grew up in the AME church and then began attending a predominantly white church, Hykeng has a unique perspective on racial separation in congregations. He’s a wealth of knowledge about the history of the black church and what led us to where we are today.

During our conversation, Hykeng brings a welcome perspective to the table about why tackling this issue should be a priority in our churches and what we can do about it. He gives some practical first steps for pursuing unity—the first being just simply to start praying about it. Our open and honest conversation was a blessing to me, and I hope it will be to you.

  • The 10 Minute Bible Hour & Accepting God's Grace As A Pastor (w/ Matt Whitman & Aron Utecht) - Episode 131

Matt Whitman originally went to school to study law. After a family tragedy struck, he came home to fill in for his dad as pastor of their church, which took him down a path of ministry that led to the eventual creation of his popular podcast and YouTube channel. Each day, the Ten Minute Bible Hour podcast provides listeners with a “fast, fun, deep dive” into the Bible. And as you can probably guess, it’s only a 10-minute listen! Matt also has a YouTube channel, which offers video titles that range from “A Protestant Talks With A Catholic Priest” to “Who Picked What Books Went In The Bible?”

Today, Matt and his co-worker Aron Utecht are talking with us about the weight of ministry, why it’s important to remember that the Gospel also applies to pastors, and why people are more drawn to “normal pastors” rather than “experts.” Our conversation with these guys was interesting and full of great thoughts—I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

  • Engaging In Social Media And What It Means For The Church (w/ Chris Martin) - Episode 129

Social media is undoubtedly a hot topic in the world today—in both secular cultures and our churches. So what does that mean for us as Christians? Should we embrace all social media has to offer or treat it as something that opposes our beliefs?

Today, we’re talking with Chris Martin, who has spent more than a decade in digital and content marketing for businesses like Lifeway Christian Resources and Moody Publishers. His recently released book, Terms of Service: The Real Cost of Social Media, sheds light on how social media is a dominating force in our lives, how it affects us in ways we don’t even realize, and why we need to be cautious about how we engage with the internet.

We’ll talk about how to live wisely while still engaging in social media. Plus, we’ll also talk about how we can use social media as a positive medium to reach the lost and how churches can benefit from spreading good news across these outlets.

  • Using Technology To Engage With Church Visitors (w/ Jeanette Yates from Text In Church) - Episode 128

Let’s face it—in this day and age, the easiest way to connect with someone is through a text message. Most people (young and old) know how to communicate through this medium, so why shouldn’t the church hop on the bandwagon, too?

That’s precisely why Text In Church exists. Today, Jeanette Yates talks to us about how their affordable text and email software can help you reach out to and engage with your visitors. She gives us some valuable tips on how to connect with first-time guests and provides us with great strategies for finding what works for your ministry when it comes to guest follow-up.

Text In Church makes it easy to gather information, reach out to guests, and engage in real conversations—all through text! We’re excited to share this with you today and hopeful that you’ll learn some new ways to reach out to your guests.

  • God’s Plan For Pastors In Seeking Help And Building Unity (w/ Pastor Timothy Pender) - Episode 127

At God’s House Christian Church, Pastor Timothy Pender and his congregation believe that everyone was born with a purpose, on purpose. In other words, God has a plan for each one of us (Jeremiah 29:11). And this episode, we’re talking about God’s specific plan for pastors when it comes to reaching out for mental health support.

We’re thrilled to welcome Pastor Pender and have him share about his time in the military, how he manages his PTSD, and what God says about unity in churches and between pastors. We’ll cover many truths about the importance of asking for help when you need it and surrounding yourself with trusted individuals who can support you.

  • A Model For Preaching: Easy Steps To Delivering A Great Message (w/ Mark Messmore) - Episode 126

Mark Messmore has a passion for teaching and preaching. He also has a passion for teaching people how to preach! In his early 20s, God began showing him the need for a simple, easy-to-follow model for people learning how to prepare and present a sermon. He thought his ideas would eventually end up in a university-level classroom, but it turns out that the Lord had other plans. He recently released his book, Simple Preaching Prep, to help train leaders in the church—whether as Sunday School teachers, youth group volunteers, or pastors—to deliver compelling messages.

In today’s episode, we’re diving right in with Mark on why letting other people stand in the pulpit on a Sunday is a good thing, what keeps pastors from asking other people to preach a message, and what you should look for when identifying who might be up for the task. Plus, he’ll let us in on some of his best tricks for preparing a great message! Enjoy!

  • Diving More Into 95Network Coaching: What It Is And How We Help You (w/Jon Sanders & Travis Stephens) - Episode 125

In this episode, Caralee is joined by two of our awesome team members here at the 95Network, Jon Sanders and Travis Stephens. Jon serves as our Coaching Director and is also a full-time firefighter and one of the founders of EntrePastor, an organization that helps pastors identify ways to create additional sources of income for their families. Travis is our Membership and Social Media Director and is the Executive Pastor of Strong Tower Church in Tennessee.

Jon and Travis dive a little deeper into what coaching through 95Network looks like, what it includes, and how it can help pastors. We touch on the isolation pastors often feel, which leads them to burnout and discouragement. We also talk about how having a group of other people who can share stories, encourage, and give sound advice is priceless for leading successfully.

Pastors, our prayer for you today is that God provides exactly what you need to accomplish His mission. We’re here for you.

  • Easter Is Over—Now What? (w/ Kevin Smith, Denis Keith, and Bobby Lewis) - Bonus Episode

During a conversation with our podcast producer Kevin Smith a few weeks ago, he mentioned that we often focus our time, effort, and energy on preparing for Easter and then forget to rest and reflect afterward. As pastors and ministry leaders, it’s easy to feel like we have to keep pressing on after the amens are over on Easter Sunday because the needs never seem to end.

However, we must do what Jesus commands us to do: take Sabbath. Today, we’ve got three of our wonderful team members on the podcast—Kevin Smith, Bobby Lewis, and Denis Keith. Each of these guys has spent many years in ministry, and they all have such great advice on why it’s essential to recharge and how to do it best. As you listen today, take some time to reflect on how you can be more disciplined in taking time for Sabbath.

From us at 95Network, we pray that you had a wonderful Easter celebration this year. There is so much to be thankful for, the most important of all being Christ’s sacrifice for us so we can spend eternity with Him.
