It is estimated that 1 in 5 students have dyslexia. In this episode, we’ll talk about how speech-language pathologists successfully diagnose and treat reading disorders and the book I co-authored - The SLP Guide to Dyslexia.
The fascinating field of Speech-Language Pathology is not well known. It is dedicated to improving the communication abilities of individuals with speech, language, and swallowing disorders. And it offers a wide range of opportunities for those interested in making a positive impact on people's lives.Â
Courtney Overton, a Speech-language pathologist and literacy specialist will share about her journey to becoming a speech language pathologist. Since it is a lesser-known field specially for people of color she will discuss the percentage of black speech pathologists and how SLP’s diagnose their patients. Courtney discusses how children can be diagnosed with dyslexia at an extremely young age and what steps parents should take to ensure their child receives appropriate care.
