As the NCHC goes into its last games before the holiday break, there are a couple of intriguing matchups this weekend.

St. Cloud State, which is leading the conference standings, takes a road trip to Nebraska Omaha. Those two teams split their series last season in Omaha. Denver, which is in third place, travels to fourth-place Western Michigan. The Pioneers are one point ahead of the Broncos in the standings and WMU is riding a six-game winning streak.

Colorado College, which is 0-3-1 in its last four games, has a tall task in a road series at top-ranked North Dakota, which is 8-1 in its last nine games.

In a battle between two teams off to rough starts, eight-place Miami plays host to seventh-place Minnesota Duluth this weekend.

The Rink Live's Sydney Wolf and Mick Hatten preview all of those games and also take a look back at last weekend's matchups, including the top-three matchup between North Dakota and Denver, which ended up being a split.

It was a good weekend for NCHC teams in terms of wins and losses.

Denver, Miami, Nebraska Omaha, North Dakota, St. Cloud State and Western Michigan combined to go 9-2-1 last weekend in nonconference series.

The coming weekend will be a bit odd for NCHC teams in that there are two teams that have byes (St. Cloud State and Miami), two teams have nonconference series (Western Michigan and Colorado College) and then there are four teams that are playing conference series (Nebraska Omaha at Minnesota Duluth and North Dakota at Denver).

The conventional thinking is it is tough to get sweeps in the NCHC on the road.

Well, this past weekend was a bit of an anomaly. All three road teams swept conference series as St. Cloud State got two wins at Western Michigan, North Dakota got a sweep in Duluth and Colorado College swept Miami in Oxford, Ohio.

In nonconference play last weekend, Denver put up and gave up a lot of goals (23 between the teams) in a series split at Arizona State and Nebraska Omaha got two one-goal wins over visiting Long Island.
