​Authenticity is one of the goals God has for each and every one of our lives. This question came to Jacob who lied about his identity to falsely assume the birthright blessing. God wants us to know that we don’t have to deceive to get what He has for us. We can be honest and open about who we are and trust God for the rest.

Let’s face it, life challenges our faith and sometimes we laugh just like Abraham’s wife Sarah. Our circumstances seem impossible. But God challenges us to believe in Him and the fact that not one of His promises will ever go unanswered. God proved to Abraham and especially to Sarah that nothing was too wonderful for Him. He’ll prove the same to us if we let Him.

​Sometimes God wants to save us from ourselves. He sees where our life is headed and He wants to prevent disaster. Cain was murderously angry for no reason. He was angry with his brother and he was angry with God. At this juncture, God asks him a crucial question, “Why are you angry?” What’s more, He warns him that “sin is crouching at his door”. But Cain doesn’t listen. God is still in the habit of asking us crucial, life changing questions. Will we listen?

Why would God ask anyone a question? It’s certainly not because He needs information. The answer is because at key turning points in our lives, God wants us to understand something crucial; something that will change our lives. In the wake of their rebellion in the Garden of Eden, God asked Adam and Eve just such a question, “Who told you that you were naked?” The truth is, there are a myriad of voices in our lives. But, not all voices are credible. Only God’s voice is a reliable source of truth. The question is, will we listen?

In our final week of God in the Movies, we look at one of the most beloved science fiction movies of 2016, "The Martian". Ultimately, it's a story about the value we place on human life and the amazing price we are willing to pay to save someone. Kind of like God.
