St Elmo is one of the most preserved ghost towns in Colorado. It was settled originally in 1887, and was abandoned in 1934. One of the last residents was Annabell Stark, often called “Dirty Annie” because her clothes were dirty. The legend is that after the mines left and the railroad stopped coming in, that the town population went from 2,000 to 7, and of those 7 was Annabell, her siblings and parents.
