Cemetery has the stairway to hell. Legend has it that at the back of the church that stands in the cemetery, is a stairway to hell. The stairway is said to be opened by satan whenever he visits this tree to see the grave of his dead son.

John Bell and his daughter (Betsy) began having a haunting experience in 1817 until 1820. Experiences included, stones being thrown at the house, animals howling, scratching at the walls, hair being pulled, being slapped. John claimed that he was having paralysis on his face (with the sides dropping down) and his tongue swelled. He became unable to eat. Even Andrew Jackson stopped by and was able to have experiences of the witch because the stories had so vastly spread.

The Spurlington Train Tunnel. The story goes something like Jesse James and his bandits his treasure in the tunnel, a local Nancy Bass saw them hide it. Once they discovered her there they hung her from the smoke hole in the middle of the tunnel. Well if that wasn’t enough of a spooky tale, it was beloved by locals that Nancy was a witch!

St Elmo is one of the most preserved ghost towns in Colorado. It was settled originally in 1887, and was abandoned in 1934. One of the last residents was Annabell Stark, often called “Dirty Annie” because her clothes were dirty. The legend is that after the mines left and the railroad stopped coming in, that the town population went from 2,000 to 7, and of those 7 was Annabell, her siblings and parents.
