The Constitution never mentions political parties, but our current federal government is rife with partisanship, even in the unelected executive branch and its once-vaunted apolitical civil service. The House of Representatives was so partisan under the last speaker, Nancy Pelosi, that no objective observer could ever say she was speaker of the “whole house” as all speakers before her at least attempted to be. Our budgetary process has been a literal joke for decades. Russia continues to outperform Ukraine in Ukraine’s so-called counteroffensive. Losses of Western equipment such as armored vehicles and tanks are numbering over 100 now, ruling out any ideas of maneuver warfare like US “experts” have been saying is going to happen. President Biden has publicly admitted that artillery ammunition is very low in Ukraine proper and even the USA is so low on conventional artillery that now we’re sending cluster munition rounds in spite of the fact that he said it would be a war crime if Russia used them. United Airlines received billions of taxpayer funds, as did all the airlines, during the pandemic to keep their operations going, and all the airlines except United committed to not firing employees. United, however, fired some, and placed thousands of employees on unpaid leave status for requesting religious and other exemptions. The company even went so far as to intentionally create a hostile work environment with the CEO saying publicly that if an employee requested a religious exemption, they would be putting their job at risk. The US military was and is famous for its victories in our nation’s many wars culminating in the spectacular triumph against Germany and Japan that ended World War II. What began with the muddled mess that was Viet Nam and continued through the War on Terror in Iraq and Afghanistan, American military leadership, which used to be the world’s envy, has fallen into complete disarray and disrepute. Most recent is the debacle of the pullout from Afghanistan with the ensuing deaths, mayhem, confusion, and loss of billions in equipment left behind. While true that the pullout from Afghanistan was ordered by President Biden, no military leader owned up to the complete failure to plan adequately for the pullout. No senior military leader was courageous enough to warn President Biden of the unmitigated disaster that would attend to the abrupt pullout. No senior leader took responsibility for the ensuing mess. The most senior leader to publicly document the gross failures of leadership was a USMC Lt Col whose reward for telling the truth was to get arrested wrote retired US Navy CAPTAIN Brent Ramsey in his introduction to the book we’re discussing today. That’s right, arrested, for demanding accountability among the general and flag military officers that made disastrous decisions and ultimately killed 13 Americans with them. President Biden nominated General C.Q. Brown to serve as the next Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff–the nation’s highest-ranking military officer in May. The current chairman, General Mark. A. Milley, ends his term in October.
