Today, we’re confronting a disappointing reality: Why did Mississippi GOP State Senators kill President Trump’s school choice policy in less than two minutes with no debate? Mississippi has celebrated the 'Mississippi Miracle' in public education improvements, and that’s fantastic progress. But many families still struggle to find the right fit for their children. School choice would empower parents to select public, private, charter, or home schools using education savings accounts or vouchers. Critics raised concerns that were and are being answered today again: things like using taxpayer dollars for non-public schools, whether private institutions meet rigorous academic standards, and whether HB2 truly delivers choice since private schools aren’t required to accept all students and public schools can deny transfers due to capacity. However, 18 states—including every state bordering Mississippi—have proven universal education freedom works. It doesn’t hurt public schools; it drives improvement across the board by introducing competition and parent empowerment. To help us unpack this and explore how Mississippi can join these successful states, I’m pleased to welcome our special guest, Leah Ferretti, Director of Mississippi Ready and a Mom who decided to take her children’s education into her own hands.

We are doing something about it in Louisiana’s all-important U.S. Senate primary. Our guest is Congresswoman Julia Letlow — a fighter from rural Louisiana who’s ready to take her proven record to the United States Senate. Julia grew up in Monroe, graduated from Ouachita Christian High School, and became a dedicated educator. She ran in the special election, won with 65% of the vote, and became Louisiana’s first Republican woman ever elected to Congress. In Washington, she has delivered results: she authored the Parents Bill of Rights to put moms and dads back in charge of their kids’ education, fought for the Farm Bill to protect our farmers and rural communities, returned critical funding to Louisiana’s 5th District, and earned a powerful seat on the House Appropriations Committee. Fifty years ago last week, the world watched in horror as the last American helicopter lifted from the rooftop of our embassy in Saigon. South Vietnam had fallen. But as my guest will explain, this wasn’t a military defeat – it was a betrayal by politicians in Washington who abandoned our ally after promising to stand with them. Dr. Rod Martin joins us today. In his recent essay republished on X, he reminds us of the full story: After the Paris Peace Accords under Nixon and Kissinger, America had achieved “peace with honor.” South Vietnam was capable of defending itself with our promised support. But post-Watergate, a radical Congress cut military aid by over 75%, blocked any response to North Vietnamese violations, and left our friends without bullets, fuel, or hope. What followed was catastrophic: re-education camps, executions, the boat people crisis where millions fled and hundreds of thousands died at sea, and Pol Pot’s genocide in Cambodia. Dr. Martin compares it directly to Biden’s withdrawal from Afghanistan – another “Saigon moment.” He also shares vital lessons from Richard Nixon’s No More Vietnams about fighting to win, keeping commitments, and the dangers of weakness.
