  • #018 A Panel of Man-Children Discuss Valentime's Day

Will you choo choo choose us? Sit down, grab your favorite Valentine's Day treat, and enjoy the chaos. Leigh Tyberg bravely dares to enter the realm of 'the male psyche' - a territory she's more familiar with than she would have you believe ;) - to query the guys from the Monday night group about our past Valentine's Day experiences.

You'll probably need to get your blanket and some tissues for this one... ::throat clear::

  • #015 Scott Siskind and Jason Cohen

Today on the show I'm speaking with Scott Siskind and Jason Cohen of Vinny Vegas. Vinny Vegas is a 5 piece rock band from Baltimore, MD. The band has self-released three critically acclaimed E.P’s and self-booked and funded many tours. Scott and Jason have been writing music together for some 14 years now, and I’ve known these dudes for a long time and they are some of the hardest working people I know.

    We get into:

    • How they’ve adjusted during the pandemic, working, teaching, composing
    • Music as self-care
    • Their origin story, how they met and started writing together
    • How being in a band helps grow you as an individual
    • Horror stories on tour
    • The importance of community and mutual support
    • The trap of chasing external validation
    • Why they play music, what really sustains and drives them
    • And much more!

Being in a band myself, I always looked up to these guys like older brothers. It was a lot of fun to sit down and talk with them.

  • #014 A Failed Insurrection

Join me, as the Monday night gang - Will, Adam, Shawn, Leigh, Joe, and Jess - attempts to solves racism. It's a lively discussion covering various angles and takes on the Capitol Riot. If politics is not your thing, this episode might not be for you.

We do try to seriously talk about our collective responsibility for responding to this moment in history. We explore what the current climate reveals about our country's ideological extremist condition.

Shawn forces his goulash agenda on the representative from Pennsylvania. He also educates us about the business of tending to Western Harvester Ants or Bearded Ants.

  • #013 Erika Bond

Today on the show I'm speaking with Erika Bond, LMFT. This was a really fun conversation! Erika is a licensed marriage and family therapist practicing in DC and MD. She’s been in practice nearly 20 years and her most recent undertaking is getting her AASECT sex therapy certification. AASECT is the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors and Therapists.

    She and I talk about:

    • How she ended up becoming a therapist, and the calling to help heal others.
    • The quality of sex education in the U.S.
    • How most sexual problems have anxiety at the foundation
    • Healthy sexuality
    • The three things that people are moving towards and striving for (hint, one of them is approval)
      • Erika: "We all want to feel approval and so much striving of getting approval from others is chasing a feeling that it’s okay to love ourselves… if I get enough approval from others then it will be okay to love myself. "

Erika’s presence invited me to share my own story - for the first time publicly - of the real motivations for becoming a marriage and family therapist (and she tolerates me with grace as I rant to her).
