Jesus is speaking to his disciples and explaining to them, and to us, an important principle in the Kingdom of God. God has a predetermined outcome that He is wanting to achieve in our lives, and He is constantly working in our lives to accomplish it. That outcome is for us to bear fruit for Him.

Jesus likens His people to a vineyard in this chapter, and explains to us the role of the Father, Himself and us in the vineyard. What is described here helps us to understand what "bearing fruit" looks like in our lives.

Jesus describes Himself as "The True Vine". This indicates that there are other rival vines where people seek to find satisfaction and fulfilment in this life. Jesus is telling us that there is nowhere else to find fulfilment other than in Him.

The Father is the vine dresser. He diligently pursues whatever is necessary in our lives to draw us to Himself and into the likeness of Christ.

In Verse 6, Jesus describes what is the outcome when we choose to walk away from God. He loves us and will do whatever He needs to do to keep us in connection with Him and bearing fruit.

The Apostle John ends his Gospel with the words: "I have written this gospel that you may believe".

Throughout his Gospel, he explains that "belief" looks like something. It is action, not just words. The disciples "left their lives" to follow Jesus when He asked them to. They had left everything to follow Jesus, and now in John 14, Jesus is telling them that He is going away.

How do you get to Know God more? In this message, Pastor Sean expands on that question. Jesus speaks on how to know God personally, but haven't we lost that personal touch to a large degree in our society today? God is calling us to get personal.

Why do we fellowship with God's people at Church? For fellowship? For worship? No, to personally engage with God, and personally engage with each other. We cannot connect as God has intended without following his command to meet together in His name.

In this Chapter, Jesus acts out the message He is wanting to communicate to his disciples - Jesus demonstrates what greatness in the Kingdom of God really is.

Jesus shares the depth of His love for His disciples then, and for us now. He also indicates that He is fully aware of who He is, The Son of God, fully aware of what is going to happen, and fully aware of why He is going to do what He is going to do.

From Verse 4, Jesus does something remarkable - he gets up from the table and begins washing his disciples' feet and to dry them with the towel that was wrapped around Him. To wash someone's feet in the 1st Century, was a very lowly act, usually carried out by servants. He washes all the disciples' feet, including Judas' - whom He knows is going to betray Him.

What Jesus is doing here is setting aside His own glory, for our betterment. What a remarkable God we serve!

We Wish to See Jesus is our message today from John 12.

In a summary of what has been covered already from the Gospel of John, Pastor Sean Wood explains why "accepting Christ" is not the same as "Believing in Christ". In the first part of this gospel, John has been contrasting between what belief should not look like, and what it should look like. No where in the Bible are we told to "accept" Christ, but to "believe" in Him.

Progressing further now, in this episode covering from Chapter 12:12, we see that the people of Israel were expected a King, but Jesus wasn't who they were looking for. Has much changed in 2000 years? Are we happy to accept Jesus as God, but not as Lord of our hearts?
