I guess I left out a few "mads" if I was doing an homage to the 1963 comedy classic but that's not what I'm doing with this show. First off, the playlist for this show isn't a response to the Variety article about DJ Kat Corbett leaving KROQ and the claim that "there’s very little new rock" being featured on alternative rock stations anymore, although it very well could be.

From my perspective the playlist is just another example of what we do, of what lots of hosts at Radio Free Brooklyn do, on a weekly basis - we feature really good music that's being created by independent artists from Brooklyn and beyond, music that we believe deserves to be heard by a wider audience.

I'm not gonna lie, when my scheduled guests had to cancel I decided that it would be a good time to take a break from having guests for a few weeks until all of the nonsense with the delta variant passes. Don't get me wrong, the protocols that RFB has in place are solid but as someone who suffers from moderate to severe asthma I don't want to take any chances.

I've also been hearing a lot of really good music by independent artists from Brooklyn and beyond so why not take advantage of the opportunity to share some of it.

One of the things we pride ourselves on doing is presenting artists, and music, who are NOT part of hype machine but are artists who create music that you're going to want to return to again, and again and again. GIFTSHOP is one of those bands. Their live shows are always full of energy and they never fail to deliver, even when playing an acoustic set.

Eden James is an indie rock-pop recording artist, winning multiple music awards from his native home of Australia and achieving a number one hit in Greece. Classic Rock magazine UK recently nominated two of his songs for ‘Track of the Week’ with favorable reviews - “Sunkissed, Iggy-esque, upbeat soul", and in another edition: “Gorgeously sunny indie-come-americana. A hidden gem.”

Men and Whales is an alternative rock band from Queens, NY, whose sound and energy descend from the likes of Superdrag, Weezer, and the Foo Fighters.

I've had the pleasure of seeing the band play live a number of times and I've had an even greater pleasure of having band members of the band as guests. This time was no different.

Finally! We're finally able to have guests in the studio again and I couldn't be happier to welcome members of X-Ray Love as my first guests to our new studio.

The band was the last band to play live at The Bitter End before the City shut down and they still haven't had a proper release show to celebrate the release of "No Parking", their debut EP.

June 21st is not just the longest day of the year, it's also something called Manhattanenge!

For those that don't know, Manhattanenge is an event during which the setting sun or the rising sun is aligned with the east–west streets of the main street grid of Manhattan.

In honor of this auspicious day we're going to bring you an hour of long songs, songs that are at least 6-7 minutes in length. I've filled the playlist with the wonderful music of former guests Stone Giant, Vajra, Cinema Cinema and Clouds Taste Satanic, plus Skull Practitioners, who I've only seen live, and two new releases by artists from outside NYC, Acid Magus and Datura4.
