Distraction is a huge problem for leaders like us isn’t it. The average human only pays attention for a few seconds. How do you deal with that when everyone has their head in their devices? In this episode, Scott will give you five unmatched best practices to overcome the "Guppy Effect.”
Join us…and share this podcast with your Tribe! See you on the Rooftop!
Microsoft has done a study that has shown that the goldfish has an average attention span of nine seconds, and the average human today has an attention span of eight seconds.
Our attention span is one second less than a friggin’ goldfish, but check this out. The guppy has an attention span of 15 seconds. What I’m telling you as you’re watching this right now, the guppy has almost two times the attention span of a human being living in the United States and other countries around the world. Two times the attention span of your clients. Two times the attention span of your boss. What do you think about that? What do you do about that?
When you’ve heard me talk earlier about the enemy we’re up against, this month is all about “know your enemy”, I’m not talking about the enemy in the physical sense. What I’m talking about are the enemies to the tracks that you want to lead, the enemies to the higher purpose that you want to serve. A lot of that is behavior, a lot of that is culture.
Join me by the campfire and let’s talk about how to lead our way through “The Guppy Effect”

Know thy enemy.
I'm talking about one enemy in particular today, an enemy I call 'the churn'.
So, what's happened to trust today? Look at your own world, your own life. Turn on the news for 15 seconds. What do you see? You see churn. Go to work and look at how people treat each other. Look at the little groups that form. That’s churn. Look at any kind of political conversation today, whether it's gun control, whether it's race, whether it's taxes. It's all churn.
In this week's video blog, we're going to learn to identify the churn and get into ways that you can lead responsibly and pragmatically, bridge the gaps, and even thrive in low-trust, high-conflict situations.
Look around you and let me know where you’re seeing the churn pop up in your life.

"No One Wins Alone." That’s our theme this month in Rooftop Leadership and the topic of this podcast. I believe this in my very core. That’s why I hang out with four guys who call ourselves “Raw Mastermind.” This little group is a team that has helped me grow my business and enrich my life. You can build the same kind of team right now and play a bigger game. Give this podcast a listen and share with your tribe."

Well all fear it.
We all fear rejection from our peers, from our family members, from the people closest to us. There's a saying, 'crabs in a bucket', whenever one crab starts to crawl out of a bucket, the other crabs will reach up and pull that crab back down into the bucket. "Get your ass back down here," right? That's what happens just as he's right on the edge of making it out.
Why is that?
Join me around the fire pit for this week's video blog on dealing with the 'crabs' aiming to undermine your team and your goals.

So what I want to talk about this week is this notion of building a team, what really goes into it.
I’d like you thinking about your team. I’d like you thinking about what it means to you and even evaluating where you are in your journey right now and if you’ve got the right people on the bus to build this team.
When I was in Special Forces, I will tell you, we put an inordinate amount of time into how we selected, how we assessed and how we assembled together our teams.
We call it an A team, right, and it’s this blend of weapons guys and engineers and medics and communications and officers and it’s this very interesting blend. But then below that, there’s the personal chemistry that has to be in place.
I’ve seen this emphasis on team building all of my life.
Join me this week as we look at some skillsets that will help you “Build Your A-Team”.

No one wins alone.
I’d like you to remember that metaphor for your life. No matter how talented you are, no matter how dedicated you are, how great your plan is, how wonderful your skills are, no one wins alone.
Eventually someone’s going to roll a grenade in the room with you and if you don’t have a strong team, you’re going to go down. You may go down with self-sabotage or you may go down just simply because people don’t follow you. But, having a team that has your back and collectively moves towards the shared vision is absolutely essential.
In this week’s podcast we look at the ‘Power of Team’ and why teams are so critical to our success.
Until next time, I’ll see you on the Rooftop.

We’re going to talk about a theme that is very near and dear to my heart, and it is quality over quantity.
You probably heard your mom or grandmother or your dad talk about this in some degree as you were growing up, which is quality trumps quantity.
Quality trumps quantity every single time, and I really do believe that’s true and it’s certainly true when we’re doing our deep work.
That time that we spend in the dark, that time that we spend alone, that time that we spend in the grind, working our craft to fulfill in the daylight on what it is we wanna do, has to be quality reps. There really does have to be serious quality in what we do, right? Quality reps, do the quality reps.
Listen to the podcast and let’s get on with the reps…

As Rooftop Leaders, we define ‘High Performance’ a little differently than most. If you want to be a high performer, you need to be willing to do the deep work you were put on this earth to do.
High Performers don’t make resolutions, they leave tracks.
Now, what does that mean to you? If you do this kind of work as a Rooftop Leader, I’m not promising you fame, I’m not promising you wealth or status that may or may not come as the result of this kind of work. What I am promising you is that you will do the work you were put on this earth to do.
You will have a life you don’t have to vacation from and you will be surrounded by people you respect.
Join me around the fire pit and lets deep dive High Performance and what it means for your life.

‘Deliberate Practice’ is when you practice and practice and practice until you can’t get it wrong.
Now that level of commitment and that level of dedication is what I’m talking about for you in the deep work that’s necessary to fulfill on your goals. And I promise you, almost no one does this and if you’ll do it, you will find yourself at a place in your life doing what you were meant to do in this world and you’ll find yourself surrounded by people you respect.
