  • Ep 238- The Director & Stars of "THIS REALLY HAPPENED" Honored At Tribeca Film Festival

We love being a part of the Tribeca Film Festivals Coverage! Every year it is an honor! Some of the best events are the new TV pilots that end up on your televisions!

When we heard about this show and the idea that it was based on a true story, we were SOLD! Can you imagine dating the same person, who is a Broadway Swing, and then writing your experience in a TV Pilot and having it at Tribeca!

Based on a true story, Kate and Zoe, two young creatives in the throes of new love, have discovered they’ve been dating the same person: “BOY.” Determined to produce some kind of brilliant revenge project, they recount their experiences in filmed interviews and fantastical flashbacks full of (literal) red flags. But will this process turn out to be more cathartic or soul-crushing?

Directed by Emily Cohn and Stars Kallen Prosterman & Olivia Abiassi Are Here and they are a FUN time! Listen and learn all about a new show that I am sure will be on your screens in no time!

  • Ep 237- Vintage Songstress Allyson Briggs Releases New Bacharach Album!

Allyson Briggs has created an eclectic cocktail of high-class music, topped with the glamour of a bygone era. From Carnegie Hall and Jazz at Lincoln Center to the Rainbow Room and Birdland Jazz Club, she has brought her incredible voice to lead Fleur Seule to delight audiences around the world. Fleur Seule is a retro jazz band with seven languages of repertoire and many classic styles of music, that transports audiences to their favorite musical memories. The Fleur Seule experience is a mixture of the most beloved music, with sounds of soothing Karen Carpenter and vibrant Ella Fitzgerald, to the infectious Peggy Lee and diverse Linda Ronstadt. Their range is unmatched and the joy they bring is contagious. See who Michael Feinstein calls “One of the most incredible talents out there today” and experience Fleur Seule for yourself. Allyson is fondly known by her fans as “The Glamour Girl of Jazz” and by her Latin fans as “La Rubia de la Salsa,” a nickname given to her at their debut salsa performance at La Marqueta in el barrio in Spanish Harlem.

ALLYSON BRIGGS will release her new album Promises, Prayers, and Raindrops: Allyson Briggs Sings Burt Bacharach on Friday, July 12. It will be available on CD and in digital and streaming platforms. Briggs and her band Fleur Seule will celebrate the recording with a special concert at Birdland Theater on Tuesday, July 9. Tickets are available HERE. Promises, Prayers, and Raindrops features 20 tracks that created the soundtrack of American life in the 1960s, combining household-name Bacharach and David classics that have been making people smile for generations, with several catalog deep cuts that will thrill music aficionados. Briggs, serving as bandleader and star vocalist, is expertly supported by music director Andy Warren on trumpet, James Navan and Jason Yeager on piano, Michael O’Brien on bass, Shareef Taher and Peter Traunmueller on drums, and Broadway luminary Julie Benko (Funny Girl, Harmony) as guest vocalist. Purchase the album at www.fleurseule.com.

Promises, Prayers, and Raindrops features Briggs’s subtle yet sophisticated interpretations which reinvigorate beloved hits “I’ll Never Fall in Love Again,” “I Say a Little Prayer,” “Walk on By,” and more. At the same time, the album digs deeper into the Bacharach oeuvre, including two songs associated with the iconic Peggy Lee. “My Rock and Foundation” was written by Bacharach and David specifically for Lee to sing on her 1971 album Where Did They Go.

  • Ep 234- Poet/Author TJ Armand Talks "Self Imposed Exile" Just In Time For Pride!

Award-winning Turkish-American writer, composer, and producer T.J. Armand - who recently produced the critically acclaimed albums for Tony award nominee Mary Bridget Davies and Windsor Castle’s resident sextet The Queen’s Six - unveils his debut poetry collection, "Self-Imposed Exile – Poems of Queer Beginnings." This evocative collection of 56 selected poems offers a candid exploration of Armand's formative years, capturing the raw essence of his journey as an immigrant and a young queer artist.

Armand, whose diverse artistic portfolio spans three decades, was mentored by the late Grammy-winning producer Arif Mardin. He is a full-scholarship recipient from Berklee College of Music. Armand's multifaceted career includes notable concert productions with Chaka Khan, The Manhattan Transfer, and Tony nominee (for her role as Janis Joplin) Mary Bridget Davies. As a co-founder and Executive Director of Armand and Paiva LLC, he has invested in Tony-nominated shows such as "The Great Comet" starring Josh Groban, Stephen Sondheim’s "Merrily We Roll Along," and the currently in-development production of Virginia Woolf’s “A Room of One’s Own."

"Self-Imposed Exile – Poems of Queer Beginnings" delves into the politics of immigration, sexual identity, and the struggles of a young artist. Readers will find a deeply personal reflection of Armand's experiences—from the heartbreak of losing a beloved partner in 1994 to the challenges of mandatory military service, and the naïveté of his college years to the struggles of coming out in America. These poems present an unfiltered look at a young man's fight to carve out his identity. Compiled during the reflective period of the COVID-19 lockdown in New York City, the collection revisits the tumultuous and often humorous false starts of Armand's early life.

"Self-Imposed Exile – Poems of Queer Beginnings" is available now on Amazon! Click Here!

  • Ep 232- Director Armani Ortiz Talks His New Music Video, Working For Tyler Perry, & More!

Armani Ortiz, co-director of Tyler Perry’s documentary Maxine’s Baby: The Tyler Perry Story, is back with an electric musical short film, EN EL BRONX PART 2, at the Tribeca Film Festival this year as part of the festival’s short film program.

The short film, EN EL BRONX PART 2, is the continuation of his musical series “En El Bronx,” which Armani released in January 2021, set to the song “Del Mar” by Ozuna. Part 2 picks right back up where the magic of part 1 left off - we follow our two love interests through their wedding day, where we see the same tropes of love, jealousy, affection, rejection, and every emotion that emerges from the spectrum of heartache come to life through dance.

Armani Ortiz, a Bronx-born Afro-Latino director, writer, and actor, effortlessly merges his unique perspective with exceptional talent and an unparalleled work ethic. As Tyler Perry boldly proclaimed, "Once the world can see what he can do, it’s going to blow some people’s minds."

Armani's passion for film ignited during his childhood when his parents took him to Washington Heights' iconic Coliseum Cinema. Captivated by classics like "Back To The Future" and "Spider-Man: The Animated Series”, he nurtured a dream to direct from an early age. While at St. John’s University in Queens, NY, Armani transformed his dream into reality, investing $2,000 from his student loan to acquire his first camera.

After graduating in 2012, Armani started his career working for Sean Combs’ newly launched, REVOLT TV. In a matter of months, Ortiz rose from intern to Combs’ personal director. Tyler Perry caught eye of Armani's private work with Combs and took him under his wing in 2015.

At Tyler Perry Studios since then, Armani has worn numerous hats, being the studio's sole talent to write, direct, and edit projects. His independent ventures include directing a thrilling Spider-Man concept trailer titled "NOIR," along with a short musical film "Del Mar (En El Bronx)," which garnered a staggering 28 million views. He also created, directed, and starred in the original series "Perimeter," wrapping in late 2022. Armani boasts a directorial portfolio spanning over 100 episodes of televised content.

This is a must hear chat for any aspiring filmmakers out there!
