The Roundtable with Robert Bannon

We love dance, immersive theatre, and creative fun people! If you do to, this one is for you!

TBIC Music Group will release a concept album of the new immersive electro-swing musical Whisper Darkly – the first musical written in the retro-inspired genre – on Friday, February 23. To mark the anniversary of the start of Prohibition, a special preview dance mix from the album will be released on Wednesday, January 17. Whisper Darkly features music and lyrics by Andrew Gerle (Meet John Doe, Glory, Mississippi) and book by DJ Salisbury (Moonshine and Mistletoe, The Man Who Would Be King). The album is produced by Andrew Gerle and PiSk (Roberto Costa). Pre-save the single HERE.

Whisper Darkly’s electro-swing score highlights the hugely popular international genre that combines the joy and sophistication of ’20s and ’30s jazz and Vaudeville with the infectious sounds of 21st Century EDM beats. This concept album has brought together actors and musicians from the top echelons of Broadway, jazz and electro-swing to create a show that is part 1920s, part 2020s, and entirely new.

In Whisper Darkly, it’s once again 1928 and the audience are patrons of Manhattan’s notorious speakeasy, the Hush Club. The proprietress, Topeka McShane, leads her cast of chorines, comics, and dancers with an iron fist, while teaching her niece, Evie, the ropes of big city life. When international African-American singing sensation Wysandria Cole Davis shows up in the audience, it kicks off a tumultuous evening that leaves the club and its denizens forever changed.

To help create the album’s fifteen tracks, the creators enlisted the help of pioneering electro-swing arranger and producer PiSk (Roberto Costa) of the popular Italian electro-swing band The Swingrowers, and Bogotá-based Latin Grammy Award nominee Santiago Deluchi. The cast stars Aléna Watters (The Cher Show), Kayla Davion (Tina), Keri René Fuller (Six: The Musical), Tony Award nominees Brad Oscar (The Producers) and Howard McGillin (The Phantom of the Opera), Alli Mauzey (Kimberly Akimbo), Claybourne Elder (Company), and the West End’s Alistair Brammer (Miss Saigon). Also featured are Victoria Huston-Elem, Riley Noland, Graham Stevens, Hansel Tan, Khalifa White, D’Kaylah Whitley, and Luke Hawkins.

The album’s jazz band includes Grammy Award-nominated violinist Sara Caswell; one of Modern Drummer’s top up-and-coming drummers in the world, Josh Roberts; trumpeter Alphonso Horne (Shuffle Along, Count Basie Orchestra); and Italian accordion virtuoso Roberto Gervasi.

You know we love a play in NYC! Off-Broadway is where all the cool kids hang out! We have some stars with us today! We are talking to Gabby Beans, who is going to be a superstar & Playwright Rachel Bonds with us!

Off-Broadway’s buzziest new play Jonah is “always fascinating—an experiment in disorientation that is never less than very absorbing thanks to writer Rachel Bonds’ extraordinary gift for language” (The Wrap). This New York Times Critic’s Pick “is the kind of play that reveals itself slowly but entirely, without undermining its own considerable power by wrapping anything up neatly.”

Ana is away at school, far from home and deeply alone. When she meets Jonah, everything she's longed for begins falling into place—except that Jonah is not all he seems. What begins as an exploration of thrilling desire shifts into more complex negotiations of intimacy and survival that will keep you guessing until its final twisting moments. Danya Taymor directs “an all-around excellent production” (The New York Times).

This one is FASCINATING!

“At 15, I killed someone.” This was just one of the many secrets unveiled in her new memoir, Hidden Memories. Melissa Osorio’s brain hid many memories from her for most of her life. She barely had any recollections of her childhood and that haunted her until at the age of 36, she was unable to unlock them and that began to unravel her world.

Born and raised in Venezuela, Melissa was only 16 when her beloved father was murdered. She left home soon after for the United States and despite the following 20 years as an entrepreneurial success, which took her all around the world, Melissa was only able to find happiness and peace when she was able to break free from her darkest memories. She leaves no stone unturned when she writes about her wild ride through the various treatments – some conventional, others quite unconventional. Through them all, she finally uncovered the truths and they uncovered her life.

Melissa says, “Hidden Memories” equips you with practical tools and strategies to uncover and address emotions, patterns and behaviors you wish to leave behind. You will discover effective ways to heal and transform, guiding you toward a brighter future. My stories may resonate with your own life, inspiring you to break free from past limitations and gain newfound clarity about your journey.”

Listen to our chat and then grab a copy of the book on Amazon!
