The pressure is on both teams tho; the team up 3-2 has to close out or face a Game 7 on the road. It starts with the Celtics trying to bounce back on the road in Philly after losing Games 4 and 5; lose again and it's over, but win, and all of the sudden they're back in Boston and it's the Sixers facing elimination. Same situation with our Warriors headed back to LA and the Knicks heading to Miami; win and the advantage flips in their favor. Meanwhile, the Nuggets and Suns have both defended home court, and Denver has a chance to take a road game and close out in Phoenix tonite, and failing that, another chance at home for Game 7. On today's show, the NBA Playoffs are off to a raging start, and even though we're only a week in, there's so much to catch up on. The Kings staggered the defending champion Warriors in Sacramento, with the Dubs losing both games as well as losing Draymond to a suspension, and the eulogies for the champs started coming from everywhere, but back in the Bay, Steph and Loon saved the day with a Game 3 win. LeBron and the Lakers made a statement and made it a series with a Game 1 win in Memphis, but the Grizzlies lost more than the game, as Ja went out with a hand injury, but the role players stepped up to tie the series going back to LA and the most hyped series of the postseason remains intriguing. Clippers/Suns has so much potential to be a great series, and with the Clippers stealing Game 1 in Phoenix with Kawhi in Jordan mode, it was looking that way, but after Kawhi missed Game 3 in LA and with Booker putting the Suns up 2-1, it's looking like this series in hanging on the health of Kawhi's knee. We have Jalen Brunson and the Knicks stealing one in Cleveland, we have Jimmy Butler and the Heat taking one on the road against the Bucks with Giannis questionable to play; we have 5, count them, 5 interesting series in the first round! Now, it's too much to ask for the overmatched Hawks to challenge the Celtics, and while the Nets are gutty, Embiid and the Sixers have been sleepwalking through this series, and the fireworks from Game 3 might have awakened them, but with Ant starting to feel himself, maybe the Wolves can take one or two from the Nuggets and make it a series? Not likely, with Jokic playing half speed and Playoff Jamal Murray coming around, these three series will be quick, but the other five? Lock in, cuz we could be going for a ride! And it's only the first round! On today's show, NBA Playoff season is here! Well, almost. There's still the technicality of the final Play-In games tonite to determine who gets the dubious distinction of being first round fodder for the Nuggets and the Bucks, but the real action starts Saturday with a 4 game slate, and we're ready for it with previews of each and every series. The East is looking pretty chalk, hard to anticipate the Sixers, Celtics or Bucks being challenged, but we may get a series out of Cavs/Knicks. But out West, that's where the first round gets interesting, as the 6 seed Warriors face our NorCal neighbors in Sacramento, with the 3 seed Kings the rare higher-seeded underdog to the defending champs. Then Sunday, we get Game 1 of the 7 seed Lakers @ the 2 seed Grizzlies, and again, the lower seeded Lakers are getting a lot of love in what seems like a favorable matchup for them. On today's show, the NFL offseason is taking all the headlines nationally with the Free Agency period underway, especially with an extremely thirsty Aaron Rodgers soaking up the spotlight, keeping us waiting with his "will he/won't he" become a Jet, when all the signs indicated that he was going to New York this whole time. On today's show, it's all NBA, all the time. With only 20 something games remaining post All-Star Break, there's still a lot to be decided in the Playoff seedings, particularly in the West, and we're starting to see the urgency of the situation related on the court, as player intensity picks up. An age old criticism of the Association is that the regular season doesn't mean anything, that the players don't try hard until the Playoffs, and while this argument is too nuanced for me to fully agree, I will concede that while pre All-Star is a light jog and the All-Star Game itself was a meandering walk in the park, teams are now running towards the Playoffs and will be in a full sprint throughout the postseason. So I'll accept that there were a decent number of garbage games for 75% of the season, but to counter, I'll document the past week of action where every day we had a close, high leverage and highly entertaining NBA game to enjoy, games with Playoff implications, and with players going all out. On today's show, as we survey the sports landscape since the last pod, all is quiet. It's kinda peaceful, we've had lots of time to catch up on some tasks around the house, spend some time with friends and family, get in that extra swim at the gym, or just read a bit, and nowhere to be found has been a single NFL or NBA game. It's a huge switch from just a few weeks ago, when multiple screen viewing was almost mandatory in order to catch as much of the action as humanly possible, if The Association and The League are your thing, that is. But now, things have calmed down, with the Legend, Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs crowned as NFL champs and the NBA on All-Star hiatus, and like I said, all is quiet. Awfully quiet. Maybe too quiet. . . So it's with open arms we welcome back the NBA, as teams return from the All-Star Break to a full slate of games. There's still a lot to be seen as we enter the stretch drive, the final 25 or so games of the regular season, as far as who can stay healthy, which teams solidify their chemistry, and which teams just fall off, and Gaber and I will be following it all through the Playoffs as the NBA takes center stage in the sports world. And in that spirit, even though there haven't been any games besides the All-Star exhibitions, we've still got a ton of NBA takes for you today.
