On today's show, you'll have to excuse us if we get all caught up marveling at the incredible championship run we just witnessed by the Kansas City Chiefs. A 13-1 record since October 23rd with rookies in the secondary and free agent wide receivers learning on the job, we watched this team come together, but none of it would be possible without the emerging legend. Gaber and I sorted thru our collective Super Bowl memories, trying to find the occasion where the superior overall opponent was defeated by the lesser team with the superstar QB but we couldn't find many, but that's what we saw as Patrick Mahomes upset the Eagles. We all know about Mahomes' high ankle sprain, and that makes the story even more improbable, but forgetting the narrative, this man just balled out on the biggest stage, throwing 7 TDs and 0 INTs in his Playoff run. Two Super Bowls rings in 3 appearances, 2 Super Bowl MVPs, 2 regular season MVPs, thats good enough so that the only other QBs to ever do it were Montana and Brady, and these are the only names we should even mention when comparing Mahomes. Not Burrow, not Allen, not even Aaron Rodgers or Peyton Manning; Mahomes at age 27 has a top tier QB career arc and has already passed all these guys up in accomplishments. As the Guru has stated, "we're in the Patrick Mahomes era", and judging from his determination to play thru debilitating pain, the passion he shows for the game and his utter dominance, I think it's safe to say this era will last for a while. So we'll have to wait to see how he stacks up to Brady and Montana in the end, but with his numbers and accomplishments, I'd argue that no QB has had a better start to their career than the Legend, Patrick Mahomes. On today's show, really it's all about one dude. Sure, the Eagles looked dominant after they knocked "Super" Brock Purdy out of the game and they may have been the better team either way, but as fans, we missed out on seeing a great matchup unfold, so really not a lot to take away here. But the Bengals/Chiefs Conference Championship rematch, now that one gave us something. If you're a Bengals or Burrow fan, you'll point to the no PI call on Chase, the grounding call, the late hit on Mahomes but no call for roughing on Burrow and maybe feel like the game was stolen. If the Chiefs or Mahomes are your thing, you see Mahomes out there limping around, making plays and even running for a 1st down with an mix of desperation and determination, all in an effort to bring his team to its 3rd Super Bowl in his 5 years as a starter. On today's show, we've got a lot to discuss from a wacky Wild Card Weekend, and what it lacked in marquee matchups, it more than made up for in drama, until Monday night's blowout that is. On today's show, as we close the books on another NFL regular season, we bid farewell to someone who became somewhat of a TV friend, with whom, if you watched DirectTV's RedZone, you probably spent more time with than any other single media presence over the years. Since 2009, for 7+ hours each and every Sunday, Andrew Siciliano has guided us through the action from each and every NFL game on the slate, and the ease and joy and familiarity he did it with made our Sundays even better. He'll move on to other endeavors and RedZone will be back next fall, but his presence will definitely be missed. What we got with four games left in the regular season is clarification that the hunt for the title has been whittled down to 6 teams, oh, and the Ravens as an afterthought. On today's show, we're continuing to follow all the contenders in the NFL Playoff race, and after a pretty chalk Week 13, it would seem that the cream is rising to the top. With the notable exception of the Game of the Week in Cincinnati, nearly all the contenders held their ground, but even despite getting the win, the Ravens and the Niners took Ls. SF lost Jimmy G for the season, while Lamar Jackson is week to week for the Ravens, and while both teams are still atop their divisions, their hold seem tenuous at best. Meanwhile in the NBA, our Warriors are getting back on track, staying in the thick of a tight Western Conference race that even the Lakers might be a part of, but even with their recent improvements, they still have a ways to go to catch up with a couple of juggernauts back East. The Celtics have been far and away the best team this year, while the Bucks have maintained right behind them and could be even better now that Khris Middleton is back in action.
