  • Oregon's looming budget crisis

    Happy Friday!

Turns out one-time federal funding only comes one time while huge pay increases to state employees continue. Oregon is facing yet another self-inflicted budget crisis.

Why are so many working age dudes not working? You know the answer(s) but this article is designed to make you dumber.

Ted Wheeler wants City of Portland employees to return to work in the office at least half-time, in move employees deem, you guessed it, “racist, sexist, ableist and a violation of the city’s climate goals.”

Apparently I cut off the recording before it was done. My superb producer/editor Stacy Hoblitzell patched things up as best he could.

    Have a great weekend.

    Jeff

  • What's next for Oregon Republicans?

Happy Saturday! In today’s episode, we dive into the near-term prospects for Oregon Republicans following a solid, if disappointing, performance in 2022. There are reasons for Republicans to optimistic, but also some significant headwinds heading into the presidential contest of 2024.

And who remembers the regrettable “Send our Bunns to Washington” ad from two Oregon congressional campaigns in 1996? That’s in there too.

Also, in our ongoing review of things that happen in Portland, Jeff talks about a church in Portland that is booting a preschool in order to provide a tiny home village for Indigenous single parents. At least Portland is taking one step away from being an Indigenous single parent tiny home village desert.

  • Post-election lay of the land

In this episode, we run down the post-election lay of the land in Oregon and nationally and (reluctantly) acknowledge the beginning of the 2024 presidential election.

Then I engage in some art criticism concerning this little gem from Willamette Week:

Lastly, in Headlines from the Apocalypse:

“Sword death of Portland landlord in slasher mask ruled self-defense”
