A.J. Murray is a Sr. Engineer LAN/WAN/Security at Presidio. Additionally, he writes articles, is a Cisco Champion and VMware vExpert, a teacher AND is also the creator and co-host of The Art of Network Engineering Podcast.

With so many amazing achievements and stories to tell, George & A. J delve into discussing everything from the nitty-gritty tech, to the importance of looking after your mental health when working in such a demanding industry.

This Tuesday our Managing Network Consultant, Billy Holloway was joined by Sam Defriez. 

Sam has been in the Networking space for many years now, where he started out in a BT Technical Support role back in 2005. Since then he has made his way up into senior roles, which has led him into his current position at Youfibre as Director of Networks.

Over the years Sam has completed a whole load of certifications, from CCIE to CCNA. He walks us through his experience and helps us understand at what stage in your career you should consider completing what certification. 

Sam talks to us about YouFibre and their aim to become to leading residential broadband in the UK, we learn about the current work they're doing and how they intend on reaching their goal.

This Thursday our Co-Founder & Director George Barnes, was joined by Ethan Jackson.

Ethan has been in the Networking industry for 7 years now where he started out as an Apprentice Network Engineer. Since then, he’s moved his way up and out of Apprenticeship roles, into higher positions and is now currently working as a Network Engineer.

Ethan talks to us about his route into the industry, and his experience completing his apprenticeship, which was orientated around getting kick-started in the Networking space. 

It was interesting to learn that a degree isn't the only route to get started out in the world of Networking, the pair encourage other organisations to consider onboarding apprentices, and they tell us where to go to find these opportunities. 

As a younger person first starting out their career, it was great to learn from Ethan about his experience working in this space and his plans for the future.

In today's episode Billy Holloway, our Principal Network Consultant at Hamilton Barnes was joined by Laura Catalina.

Laura has been in the Networking space for 14 years now, where she started out as a NOC Engineer. Since then she has progressed throughout her career at different companies and in various different roles’, she is now a Networking Engineer at hSo.

During this episode, the pair talk about what Laura's experience has been like as a woman in the Networking industry. In such a male-dominated field, it was interesting to understand her perspective on how she found she was treated in comparison to her male colleagues. 

Laura explains to us how she found the UK a lot more inclusive when it came to applying for jobs, in comparison to other parts of Europe. Learn about what changes the Networking industry should be making and how this can be done.

For the second episode of our spin-off series of the Route to Networking, orientated purely around women in the Networking space, our host Maddy Norris was joined by Rita Younger. 

Rita has worked in the Network Engineering industry for over 30 years, during her career she has worked as a consultant, a Data Center Solution Architect, and Technical Trainer at Cisco Systems, and is now the Cloud Networking Solution Manager at Worldwide Technology.

Maddy and Rita discuss how there is not enough exposure to the careers out there within the Networking space, with neither of the pair learning about these opportunities in school. They believe this may play a role in why the industry is so heavily dominated, as many women aren't aware of the opportunities for them.

Rita talks about what she does to encourage more women in the tech space to take on technical positions, as she emphasises that there is a huge difference between women in the tech space, and women in technical positions. We learn about where to head if we are interested in starting a career within this space, and what the best route into the industry is.

Johannes is the System Engineering Senior Manager at Juniper Networks. His role is to build and transform his team towards software sales and create synergies across accounts in DevOps, IT Cloud, TelcoCloud, CUPS, and oRAN.
