2 John — Audiobook Description

Where we last left off in the Bible, John writes to a chosen woman and her children, whom he loves because of the truth—and not only he, but everyone who knows the truth. He reminds them that this truth lives within believers and will remain with them forever. Grace, mercy, and peace from God the Father and Jesus Christ, the Father's Son, will be with them in truth and love.

John rejoices that he has found some of her children living according to the truth, just as the Father commanded. And his message is both simple and urgent: love one another. This is not a new command, but one believers have had from the beginning. Love means living according to God's commands, and the command is to continue walking in love.

But a serious danger is approaching. Many deceivers have entered the world, refusing to acknowledge that Jesus Christ came in the flesh. Such people are not following Christ but are deceivers and enemies of Christ. John urges believers to watch themselves carefully so they do not lose what they have worked for, but instead receive the full reward.

Anyone who wanders away from Christ's teaching does not have God. But those who remain faithful to His teaching have both the Father and the Son.

Because of this, John gives a strong warning about those who bring false teaching. If someone comes to them without teaching the truth about Christ, they must not welcome that person into their home or encourage their work. To do so would make them partners in the evil being carried out.

John has much more he wants to say, but he does not want to communicate through ink and paper. Instead, he hopes to visit them personally so their joy may be complete.

The letter closes with a greeting from the children of John's chosen sister, leaving believers with a final reminder that truth and love must remain together—and that faithfulness to Christ requires both.

1 John 5 — Audiobook Description

Where we last left off in the Bible, John continues his message about love by revealing what it truly means to belong to God's family. Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has been born of God, and those who love the Father will also love His children. Love for God's people is shown by loving God and obeying His commands—and His commands are not burdensome.

John declares that those who are born of God can overcome the world. The victory that conquers the world is faith. And this victory rests on believing that Jesus is the Son of God.

John then points to Jesus Christ as the One who came by water and blood—not by water alone, but by both. The Holy Spirit testifies to the truth because the Spirit is truth. There are three witnesses: the Spirit, the water, and the blood, and all three agree.

If human testimony can be trusted, God's testimony is even greater. He has testified about His Son, and those who believe in the Son of God have this testimony living within them. Those who refuse to believe are effectively calling God a liar because they have rejected what He has testified about His Son.

And what is that testimony? God has given us eternal life, and this life is found in His Son. Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son does not have life.

John writes so believers can know with certainty that they have eternal life. Because of this confidence, they can approach God boldly in prayer, knowing that He hears them when they ask according to His will. And when God hears, they can be assured that He will answer.

John then addresses the seriousness of sin within the community. If a believer sees another believer committing a sin that does not lead to death, they should pray for that person, and God will give life. Yet there is also sin that leads to death, and John does not tell them to pray concerning that.

He reminds them that every wrong action is sin, though not every sin leads to death.

Finally, John closes with three powerful reminders. Those who belong to God do not make a practice of sin because God's Son protects them, and the evil one cannot gain control over them. They know they belong to God even though the whole world lies under the power of the evil one.

And they know that the Son of God has come and given them understanding so they can know the true God. They are in Him who is true—His Son, Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life.

Then John gives one final warning: keep yourselves from idols.

Where we last left off in the Bible, John calls believers to marvel at the incredible love the Father has shown them—He calls them His children, and that is exactly what they are. The world does not recognize them because it did not recognize Him. Yet their future holds an even greater promise: they are already God's children, but what they will be like when Christ appears has not yet been revealed. They do know that when He comes, they will be like Him, because they will see Him as He truly is. Everyone who has this hope in Christ purifies themselves, just as He is pure.

John then draws a sharp line between a life surrendered to Christ and a life controlled by sin. Those who belong to Christ do not make sin their way of life, because sin is rebellion against God's law. Jesus came to take away sins, and there is no sin in Him. Those who remain in Him do not continue in a pattern of sin, while those who persist in sin reveal that they have neither seen nor understood Him.

John warns believers not to be deceived. The person who does what is right shows that they are righteous, just as Christ is righteous. But those who make sin their practice belong to the devil, whose rebellion began from the beginning. Yet the Son of God came to destroy the works of the devil.

The difference between God's children and the devil's children becomes unmistakable: those who do not live righteously and those who refuse to love other believers do not belong to God.

From the beginning, the message has been clear—love one another. Cain showed the opposite when he murdered his brother because Abel's actions were righteous while his own were evil. Believers should not be surprised when the world hates them.

But they have passed from death to life because they love their brothers and sisters. Anyone who hates another believer is living in spiritual death, and hatred is treated with the seriousness of murder. True love is revealed by Christ's example: He gave His life for us, so we should be willing to give our lives for one another.

If someone has enough to live well but sees a brother or sister in need and refuses to help, how can God's love be living in that person? John calls believers to love not merely with words or speech, but through their actions and in truth.

This becomes the confidence that allows them to stand before God with a clear heart. Even when their hearts condemn them, God is greater than their hearts and knows everything.

When their hearts are clear before Him, they can come to God with confidence, knowing that He hears their prayers when they ask according to His will. And His command is both simple and profound: believe in the name of His Son, Jesus Christ, and love one another as He commanded.

Where we last left off in the Bible, John urges believers not to give in to sin. Yet if anyone does sin, they have an Advocate who pleads their case before the Father—Jesus Christ, the One who is truly righteous. He Himself is the sacrifice that makes forgiveness possible, not only for believers but for the sins of the whole world.

John explains that knowing Christ is proven by obedience. Those who truly know Him will follow His commands, while those who claim to know Him but refuse to obey are not living in the truth. But when believers obey God's word, His love is truly brought to its full expression in them. This is how they can know they are living in Him: by following the example of Jesus.

Then John reminds them that the command to love one another is both old and new. It was given from the beginning, yet it shines with fresh meaning because the darkness is disappearing and the true light is already shining. Anyone who claims to live in the light while hating another believer is still living in darkness. But those who love their brothers and sisters live in the light, and there is nothing in them that causes others to stumble.

John speaks directly to believers of every stage of spiritual maturity—children, fathers, and young people. Their sins have been forgiven because of Jesus. They know the Father. They have come to know Christ, who existed from the beginning. They have overcome the evil one, and God's word lives in them. Their strength comes from Him.

But John then gives a serious warning: do not love this world or the things it offers. The world is driven by the craving for physical pleasure, the craving to possess everything we see, and pride in achievements and possessions. None of this comes from the Father. The world and its desires are passing away, but the person who does what pleases God will live forever.

A final hour is approaching, and John warns that many antichrists have already appeared. These false teachers reveal that the end is near. They once belonged among the believers but left because they never truly belonged. They deny that Jesus is the Christ and reject the Father and the Son. John urges believers to remain faithful to the truth they heard from the beginning, allowing it to remain in them.

They have received the Holy Spirit from Christ, and they do not need anyone to replace the truth with deception. The Spirit teaches them what is true. So John calls them to remain in Christ, so that when He returns, they will not shrink back in shame but can stand confidently before Him.

And because Christ is righteous, those who practice righteousness demonstrate that they are truly God's children. The evidence is found not merely in what they claim, but in how they live.

Verse of the Day: Hebrews 10: 22-23

Let us go right into the presence of God house with sincere hearts fully trusting him. For our guilty consciences have been sprinkled with Christ's blood to make us clean, and our bodies have been washed with pure water. Let us hold tightly without wavering to the hope we affirm, for God can be trusted to keep his promise.

Where we last left off in the Bible, a powerful message is proclaimed about Jesus Christ—the One who existed from the beginning, whom the apostles heard, saw with their own eyes, and touched with their own hands. He is the Word of Life.

John declares that this life was revealed, and he and the others have witnessed it firsthand. Now they proclaim it so that others may share in this life and fellowship with them. Their fellowship is with the Father and with His Son, Jesus Christ. John writes so that their joy may be complete.

This is the message they heard from Christ and now declare: God is light, and there is absolutely no darkness in Him. If believers claim to have fellowship with God while continuing to live in darkness, they are not living in the truth. But when they live in the light, they share fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, God's Son, cleanses them from every sin.

John then confronts a dangerous deception. If someone claims to be without sin, they are only fooling themselves and refusing to accept the truth. But when sin is honestly confessed, God can be trusted to forgive and cleanse from all wickedness because He is faithful and just.

Yet John warns against another false claim: saying we have never sinned is calling God a liar, and His word has no place in such a person's life.

The chapter closes with a crucial balance. John is not encouraging believers to live carelessly or excuse sin. Instead, he is calling them into honest fellowship with God—walking in His light, recognizing their need for forgiveness, and trusting completely in the cleansing power of Jesus. The path forward is not pretending that sin does not exist, but bringing it into the light and finding mercy through Christ.

Verse of the Day: Jeremiah 31:9

Tears of joy will stream down their faces, and I will lead them home with great care. They will walk quiet streams and on smooth paths where they will not stumble. For I am the Israel's father, and Ephraim is my oldest child.

For me: God is leading me to a place where I will trust him fully. In a way where it won't make any sense to anyone who is paying attention. This way, I will fully understand Philippians 4:19

Where we last left off in the Bible, Peter now writes to awaken a clear and sincere understanding in the hearts of believers. He wants them to remember the words spoken long ago by the holy prophets and the command given by the Lord and Savior through the apostles.

But Peter warns that in the last days, scoffers will appear. They will mock the promise of Christ's return, following their own desires and asking, "What happened to the promise that Jesus is coming again?" They will argue that everything has continued just as it was from the beginning of creation, deliberately forgetting that God once created the heavens and the earth by His word, and that the ancient world was later destroyed by water.

The present heavens and earth are being kept by the same powerful word, reserved for fire and judgment on the day when ungodly people will be destroyed.

But there is something believers must never forget: to the Lord, a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. God is not slow about His promise, as some people think. Instead, He is patient, giving people more time to repent because He does not want anyone to be destroyed, but wants everyone to repent.

Yet the day of the Lord will come unexpectedly, like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a terrible noise, the elements themselves will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything upon it will be exposed to judgment.

With such a future ahead, Peter asks what kind of people believers should be. Their lives should be holy and devoted to God as they look forward to the day of God and eagerly await His coming. According to God's promise, they are looking forward to new heavens and a new earth where righteousness lives.

Because they have this hope, Peter urges them to make every effort to be found living peaceful lives, pure and blameless in His sight. They should remember that the Lord's patience gives people time to be saved. Peter points to Paul's letters, acknowledging that some of Paul's teachings can be difficult to understand and that ignorant and unstable people distort them, just as they do other Scriptures, bringing destruction upon themselves.

So Peter gives one final warning: they already know what is coming, and they must not be led astray by the errors of wicked people and lose their own secure position. Instead, they are to grow in the grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ.

And as the letter closes, Peter's focus remains fixed on Christ. To Him belongs the glory, both now and forever.

It was by faith that Abraham obeyed when God called him to leave home and go to another land that God would give him as his inheritance. He went without knowing where he was going.

Where we last left off in the Bible, Peter warns that just as God's prophets once spoke His truth, false prophets will also arise among God's people. False teachers will secretly introduce destructive teachings, even denying the Master who bought them. Many will follow their shameful ways, bringing disgrace upon the way of truth. Driven by greed, they will use clever words to exploit others, but their judgment has been prepared, and their destruction will not be delayed.

Peter points to the certainty of God's judgment throughout history. God did not spare the angels who sinned, but cast them into the darkness of hell, where they await judgment. He did not spare the ancient world when He sent the flood, though He protected Noah, a preacher of righteousness, along with seven others. And when He destroyed the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah, He rescued righteous Lot, who was distressed by the wickedness surrounding him.

These examples reveal something powerful: the Lord knows how to rescue godly people from trials while keeping the wicked under punishment until the day of judgment.

Peter then exposes the character of those who follow their corrupt desires. They despise authority, act arrogantly, and refuse to tremble before glorious beings. Yet even angels, though far greater in strength and power, do not bring insulting accusations before the Lord. These false teachers, however, speak abusively about things they do not understand. Like unreasoning animals, they are headed toward destruction.

Their lives are marked by corruption. They delight in deception, indulge their sinful desires, and openly pursue pleasure even while gathering with God's people. Their eyes are filled with adultery, and they cannot stop sinning. They lure unstable people into sin and have trained themselves to be greedy. Their hearts are well practiced in covetousness, and they stand under God's curse.

Peter compares them to Balaam, who loved money gained by wrongdoing. But a donkey spoke with a human voice and stopped the prophet from his foolish pursuit. These teachers promise freedom while they themselves remain slaves to corruption. A person is a slave to whatever controls them.

And the warning grows even darker. Those who escape the world's corruption through knowing Jesus Christ, then become entangled and overcome by it again, are worse off than before. It would have been better for them never to have known the way of righteousness than to know it and then turn away from the holy command they were given.

Their return to sin is like a dog returning to its own vomit or a washed pig returning to the mud. Peter leaves no doubt about the danger of rejecting the truth after knowing it. The false teachers may appear persuasive, but behind their promises lies destruction—and God's judgment is certain.

Verse of the Day: Philippians 3:20

We are citizens of heaven, where the Lord Jesus Christ lives. And we are eagerly waiting for him to return as our Savior.

Where we last left off in the Bible, Peter greets those who share the same precious faith through the righteousness of Jesus Christ, praying that God's grace and peace will overflow as they grow in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord.

He reminds believers that God's divine power has already given them everything they need to live a godly life. Through knowing Christ, they have received His magnificent promises, escaping the corruption caused by the world's sinful desires and becoming partakers of His divine nature. Because of these priceless gifts, they are called to make every effort to strengthen their faith with moral excellence, knowledge, self-control, patient endurance, godliness, brotherly affection, and love. The more these qualities grow, the more fruitful and effective their lives become in knowing Jesus Christ. But those who neglect them become spiritually shortsighted, forgetting they have been cleansed from their old sins.

Peter urges them to confirm that God has called and chosen them by living in this way. Those who do will stand firm and receive a rich welcome into the eternal Kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Knowing that his own earthly life is drawing to a close, just as the Lord Jesus had revealed, Peter is determined to remind them of these truths again and again. Even after his departure, he wants them to remember these things and remain firmly established in the truth they have received.

Peter then declares that the message about the power and return of Jesus Christ is not based on cleverly invented stories. He speaks as an eyewitness of Christ's majesty, recalling the moment on the holy mountain when Jesus received honor and glory from God the Father. From the majestic glory came the voice declaring, "This is my dearly loved Son, who brings me great joy." Peter testifies that he heard this voice himself while standing with Jesus.

Because of this, the prophetic word stands even more certain. Peter urges believers to pay close attention to it, for it shines like a lamp in a dark place until the day dawns and Christ, the morning star, rises in their hearts. Above all, they must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came from a prophet's own understanding or human initiative. Instead, the Holy Spirit moved God's servants to speak the very message He desired, making His word trustworthy from beginning to end.

Every valley shall be raised up, every mountain and hill made low; the rough ground shall become level, the rugged places a plain.

Where we last left off in the Bible, Peter turns his attention to the elders among God's people, urging them to care for the flock entrusted to them with willing hearts. They are not to serve out of obligation or for personal gain, nor to lord their authority over those in their care. Instead, they are to lead by example, looking forward to the day when the Great Shepherd appears and rewards them with a crown of glory that will never fade away.

Peter then calls those who are younger to accept the authority of their elders, while urging everyone to clothe themselves with humility toward one another. God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble. Those who humble themselves under God's mighty hand can trust that He will lift them up at the proper time. Every worry and burden can be placed in His hands because He cares deeply for His people.

With the battle still raging, Peter warns believers to remain alert and watchful. Their great enemy, the devil, prowls like a roaring lion, searching for someone to devour. They must stand firm in the faith, remembering they are not alone, for believers throughout the world are enduring the same kinds of suffering.

After they have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace—who called them to share in His eternal glory through Christ—will Himself restore, support, strengthen, and establish them. To Him belong all power forever.

As Peter brings his letter to a close, he explains that he has written these words with the help of Silas to encourage believers and affirm that this is the true grace of God. They are to stand firm in it. He sends greetings from the church in Babylon and from Mark, his spiritual son, before encouraging the family of believers to greet one another with a kiss of love.

His final words leave them with a lasting promise: peace be with all who belong to Christ.

Be joyful. Grow in maturity. Encourage each other. Live in harmony and peace. Then the God of love and peace will be with you.
