As we read John 8:12–59, tension fills the Temple. The Pharisees and other unbelievers are stirred up, outraged by the bold words Jesus is speaking openly before them all.

He declares, “I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.”

Then He makes another stunning claim: “You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

These weren’t ordinary statements. They were shocking—dangerous even. The crowd grows restless. Anger rises. His words strike so deeply that some begin reaching for stones, ready to silence Him for good.

Verse of the Day: Hosea 14:2

Bring your confessions, and return to the Lord. Say to him, "Forgive all our sins and graciously receive us, so that we may offer you our praises.

In this episode, Jesus is openly teaching at the Temple where crowds are both thrilled and skeptical about Jesus being the Messiah they've been waiting for. The Jewish leaders are plotting to arrest and kill him by any means necessary. They even present a woman before them to be punished by stoning, but Jesus tells them that the one who has never sinned should throw the first stone. All of this and more is found in John 7:1 - 8:11.

Verse of the Day: Jude 24-25

Now all glory to God, who is able to keep you from falling away and will bring you with great joy into his glorious presence without a single fault. All glory to him who alone is God, our savior through Jesus Christ our Lord. All glory, majesty, power, and authority are his before all time, and present, and beyond time! Amen.

As we read Matthew 16:5-28, Mark 8:14-9:1, and Luke 9:18-27, the disciples - especially Simon Peter - understand the importance of knowing who Jesus is and who we are in Christ. As we read their story and discover this truth, we are reminded of all the things that Jesus has done for us, we walk in truth and speak with authority, and we pick up our cross daily as we follow Jesus.

You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are on you!

As we continue in this series, we are in Matthew 15:21-16:4 and Mark 7:24-8:13. Within these verses a Gentile woman refuses to give up—and Jesus marvels at her faith. A deaf man hears and speaks in a particular way. In the wilderness, over four thousand sit hungry, and with a few loaves and fish, Jesus turns scarcity into overflowing abundance.

And still, the Pharisees demand a sign.

Verse the Day: 1 Samuel 26:23

"The Lord gives his own reward for doing good and for being loyal."

As we continue to read about the ministry of Jesus, we see that Jesus is attacking the traditions of the religious leaders, calling out the hypocrisy of their actions, and the unbelief of many so called disciples. All of this is found in John 6:22-7:1, Matthew 15:1-20, and Mark 7:1-23.

As we continue to read the Gospels, Jesus has been rejected in his home town (Matthew 13:53-58; Mark 6:1-6) and sends his disciples out to preach the Good News to only Israel. (Luke 9:1-6, Mark 6:7-13, and Matthew 9:35-11:1) Jesus instructed them to bring no money, no clothes, no food, and not even a walking stick to bring along on their journey through the villages. He even gave advice for their journey that would last a lifetime.

Verse of the Day: Mark 6:31

Then Jesus said," Let's go off by ourselves to a quiet place and rest a while." He said this because there were so many people coming and going that Jesus and his apostles didn't even have time to eat.
