Pete Wright, Kyle Olson, and Rob Kubasko helm this fine Saturday Matinée. Rob’s still watching Boston Legal, but sounds like he’s about finished and can move on to another hit legal drama. Stay tuned!
Kyle has seen The Batman and has good things to say. No spoilers, but the way he talks about this thing makes us super into it. Did Pattinson really pull it off? The Film Board will be talking about it Saturday evening live.
Pete complains about Kimi some more and recognizes that he's on an island with this one, so he throws a Hail Mary and brings up the time that Scarlett Johansson turns into a USB stick. Sick burn, bro.
There's some good fuel up for trailers this week. Seriously, no scrubs here:

Mandy Kaplan (Mandcave), Rob Kubosko (10 Random Things), and Josh Stolte (Scarlet Velocity: The Flash Podcast) are all in on Galactic Starcruiser, the new immersive hotel experience in Orlando with no windows and aliens that'll cost you a few months of your mortgage. Surprising (no)one, Mandy isn't all-in on the new Shondaland show, Inventing Anna. And the Razzies are out for 2022 and while they do seem more sinister this year, they have a solid take on the career of Bruce Willis.
THE LIST!
This week: Comic book movies that DON'T stem from super-heroic origins. Will our team step up?

Wanna talk about Boba Fett? We do. But also, we have to talk about ‘Peacemaker’ and ‘Reacher’.

It’s Olympic season! Ok, so it’s the end of Olympic season, but still: this week we’re talking about movies that contain activities that should be adopted as Olympic events in future years. Get ready to hit the gym.

The Oscar nominations are out and this year more than others past, are the nominees more accessible to you where you live?
Analysts are starting to talk more feverishly about the value of small screens in getting small movies seen. Julia Alexander and Jason Snell poke at that particular dragon in the latest episode of Downstream with a nod to this piece from Parrot Analytics. Both are interesting and point to a place down the road where we see greater importance in home viewership for anything that doesn’t wear tights or blow stuff up.
New voices on the show this week! We’re thrilled to welcome Jay Shepard and Josh Stolte to the TNR rotation. They join us from their voluminous podcastery on the Retrozap podcast network including the Superhero Suite, Scarlet Velocity: A Flash Podcast, and ENJOY STUFF!

Jay brings a spiritual follow-up to Free Guy, Josh to Buzz, and Pete brings dinos. Weaponized Nostagia, anyone?
THE LIST!
Last week’s crew gave us the task of coming up with terrible places for a weekend getaway. Pretty broad topic, that. Most of these are films that offer a treat of anxiety that lives on decades since we first saw the films.

Kyle Olson heads up the crew of Mandy Kaplan and Krissy Lenz in a celebration of the Afterparty. And you guys... it's so good.
Kristin Bell leads a fun romp in The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window. Big swings? Hilarious tone? Uncertain parody? Genuine suspense? Might just be a bit of everything... for everyone?
Krissy checked out Wold Like Me in a follow-up to her trailer pick from a few weeks back and turns out, it finished before she did, and that's a good thing.
Kyle is watching Laugh In! like a cultural Indiana Jones.

In a follow-up to our murderous creatures, we bring you a list of murderous objects!

Ah, yes, another Saturday Matinée is upon us. This week, Tommy Metz purportedly hosts Pete Wright and Rob Kubasko in a rousing round of list-making and brain-breaking trivia connections.
Did you know they made a reboot of Mad About You? We didn't either. Not until Rob found it on Amazon Prime... along with the rest of the classic Helen Hunt/Paul Reiser sitcom.
Tommy's been watching Cheer so he can find a way to get on mat. It's a rough season for the teams what with COVID and bone-breaking and all that hullabaloo.
We're pretty gung-ho about Peacemaker over on HBOMax, but we're REALLY obsessed with the show's opening credits. If you want to dig a little deeper, check out this Billboard piece on the nearly-washed-out Norwegian metal band, Wig Wam, and how James Gunn fixed everything by picking 'Do You Wanna Taste It' as the show's iconic theme.
True story: Tommy was supposed to be directing a big fancy movie this weekend but just hours before we sat down to record, it all fell apart because COVID. So, tell him sorry when you get a chance and if you have a fancy mansion location that isn't just oozing pathogen and happens to be in L.A., hit him up. He'll be over in a few hours, bonded, crewed, and camera-ready.
Also, we play the movie game. Three rounds. They are painful because we're not very good at it. Enjoy yelling at your podcast device for about fifteen minutes.
THE LIST!
The knuckleheads last week handed us a list mystery: find movies in which rock stars play themselves in movies. Don't worry: Tommy got Prince on here. The list was therefore considered complete in round one.

Join Mandy Kaplan, Steve Sarmento, and Pete Wright for today’s award season SatMat!
That’s right, the SAG awards have dropped and we have some opinions. But then we get lost in dishing on Leto’s performance in that Gucci thing and things come off the rails. Don’t worry though, we do manage to bring it back around to aging on film thanks to Carrie Bradshaw and crew vis the Golden Girls. Don’t worry, we’re not the only one’s talking about it. The Today Show is, too. Finally, Apple TV+ is moving into Kong with a series follow-up to the last Kong film and it’s a mixed bag.
THE LIST!
Of course, we’re hobbled in our journey through movies with the best monsters since Rob, of course, made sure that our creatures had to be anti-sapien. Alas, we bring Best Non-Human Animal/Creature.

Mandy Kaplan, Steve Sarmento, and Tommy Metz take over the Saturday Matinée this week. What’s on deck? Tommy loves Search Party and Yellow Jackets. So there.
Is The Matrix Resurrections laughably bad or some sort of genius? Some people clearly think the former. As for us...?
Don’t Look Up. Hrm... Uh... Yeah...
Betty Davis? Peter Bogdanovich? And the news broke after we recorded, but Sidney Poitier too? What an awful start to 2022.
