UNLV head coach Josh Pastner spoke about the Rebels’ mindset after their road win at UC Irvine and ahead of the next round of the NIT against Tulsa.

Pastner emphasized the culture UNLV is trying to build in his first season, pointing to toughness, competitiveness, and consistent effort as the foundation of the program. He said the postseason experience has been valuable for the extra practices, reps, and road opportunities, while also describing Tuesday’s performance as another sign the group is buying in.

He also praised the way UNLV responded to UC Irvine’s defensive adjustments, pointed to Kamani Hamilton’s impact in the win, and discussed the importance of keeping the program’s core together moving forward.

Tyrin Jones also spoke about the quick turnaround, the team’s defensive mindset, the pride of representing Las Vegas in the postseason, and the progress he has made this season.

Pastner emphasized the culture he is building in his first season leading UNLV basketball, stressing toughness, grit, and competitiveness as the foundation of the program. The Rebels are embracing the opportunity to continue playing in the postseason after falling to Utah State in the Mountain West Tournament.

Pastner also reflected on the challenges of rebuilding the program, the lessons learned from the Utah State loss, and the opportunity the NIT provides for player development and momentum heading into next season. He called UNLV a “sleeping giant” in college basketball and expressed confidence that the program can regain its energy and atmosphere at the Thomas & Mack Center.

The Rebels will face UC Irvine, one of the most consistent programs on the West Coast under head coach Russell Turner, in a tough postseason road environment.
