Does grief ever go away and become completely healed? Seacoast staff members Co-Lead Pastor, Lisa Surratt, and Director of Culture and Executive Support, Keenan Shriver, sit down with host Joey Svendsen to share their stories of encountering deep grief. The three discuss hope in the midst of pain, the return to “normal life,” and how to interact with someone who is grieving. Lisa and Keenan also talk about the nearness of God after loss and some of the good that comes out of grief—like gratitude and if it comes more naturally to those who have gone through seasons of grief.
At the top of the episode, hosts Roy Jacques and Joey Svendsen have some question about grief for Pastor Chip Judd, digging in a bit to the professional side of things.

A part of the Seacoast family, Ruby Cheng, shares about the heartache she experienced after losing her mother to sickness, followed by the tragic and unexpected loss of her husband. Ruby is joined on the podcast by Lynne Stroy and Josh Walters who both have their own stories of grief. Together, with Joey Svendsen, the four discuss the hopelessness that seasons of grief deliver and why the sentiment of "God just wants you to be happy" doesn't "add up" when facing grief.
Ruby also shares about her book, "Caged Momentum: A Memoir of Goodness in Grief,” describing what she’s learned about grief. Ruby talks about restored hope, how grief has changed her, and why she can now experience a deeper level of contentment, even after walking through the “valley of the shadow of death.”
At the top of the episode, Lead Pastors Josh and Lisa Surratt, alongside Jack Hoey III and Joey Svendsen, discuss some of the top google-searched questions pertaining to living out one's faith: how does one trust in God, why does God allow suffering and how does one go about refraining from yelling at his or her kids.

Dr. Kara Powell, co-author of Future-Focused Church: Leading Through Change, Engaging the Next Generation and Building a More Diverse Tomorrow, joins the podcast to share about her book–endorsed by Andy Stanley and Christine Caine. Dr. Kara is joined by host Joey Svendsen and Seacoast’s Director of Church Administration, Glenn Wood, who has a significant hand in operational projects. The three discuss the current health of Seacoast Church, but through some critique and probing questions, Dr. Kara addresses if Seacoast is “future-focused.”
At the top of this special extended episode, Tomelex Copeland, Abbi Love, Lynne Stroy and Joey discuss the strengths and weaknesses of Seacoast, some common critiques of large churches, and the idea of being "seeker friendly." They also share different views on what churches should measure in terms of growth and why it matters.
And, in honor of Black History Month, Tomelex, Abbi, and Lynne share their perspectives on how Seacoast engages in ministry within minority communities.

He also talks with us about the work he’s doing in hard to reach places and tells a few stories of life-change for those in prison.
At the end of 2024, the Seacoast Podcast launched an opportunity for listeners to monetarily support the prison ministry efforts through a gift of $10 a month. During our conversation, Jim shares specific needs of the prison ministry and we learn how listener support goes directly toward reaching inmates.
At the top of the episode, Roy Jacques, Ryan Scott, Lynne Stroy and Joey Svendsen discuss how men and women relate to each other when it comes to political-correctness, southern manners, and certain things nobody should just say.

Sonny Sandoval was born and raised on the streets of Southtown, Texas, two exits from the Mexico border. He was always a behind-the-scenes person with no ambition of being the frontman for the platinum selling band, P.O.D. The band, known for their heavy music, was too Christian for the world but too secular for the Church. Sonny lives on the edge of these two worlds, a line he has attempted to walk with integrity.
In his new autobiography, Son of Southtown, Sonny reflects on over 30 years of being a Christian in a mainstream band, playing on MTV and touring the world.
How does one truly follow God's calling in this chaotic world? Part of the equation, according to Sonny's story, is being totally and uniquely who God made you to be, without apology and without compromise--but with passion and integrity.
At the top of the episode, the hosts discuss their musical preferences, whether worship is a regular part of each of his or her personal worship practices and whether there is such thing as an "anointed" song.

What does it mean for a Christian to be "part of God's Kingdom?” How should this knowledge inform a Christian's view of politics, government, and general posture toward other countries? Pastor Brian Zahnd, of Word of Life Church in St. Joseph, Missouri and author of a dozen books, joins the podcast to talk about the radical shift in how the church postures itself as part of God's Kingdom, stating the church should "not be of this world" (John 17:16). With a biblical view of God's Kingdom as the context, Pastor Brian and Joey also discuss the key to unity in the church, how a Christian holds peace in this war-torn world, what the church's role is in light of Jesus' finished work at the cross and how this plays out in Brian’s church.
At the top of the episode, Tomelex Copeland, Luke Gaikwad, Lynne Stroy, and Joey Svendsen reflect on being "snowed in" for this recording and ponder some theological questions in regard to the fires in California.

Author, activist, and pacifist Shane Claiborne and Bible scholar and historian Marc Turnage join the podcast with their sharp disagreements concerning the war in Israel. Hosts Lynne Stroy and Joey Svendsen facilitate the conversation, as the two guests agree that the tragedy of war is a result of fallen human nature, but then turn to impassioned discourse over their strong moral differences concerning Israel’s current war.
At the top of the episode, Lynne, Joey, Jack, and Roy discuss their own opinions of war. With the historic devastation of Nagasaki and Hiroshima (Japan, World War II) as the context, the four discuss the nuances of being a hopeful, peaceful Christian while living in a world where war rages and innocent lives are taken.

Show-notes from that episode:
Black pastors at Seacoast, Lynne Stroy and Joel Delph, join Lead Pastor Josh Surratt and host Joey Svendsen to discuss why publicly putting language to their lived experiences as black people is nerve-wracking; and given the limitations of words, very susceptible to being misconstrued.
The four discuss why conversations surrounding race is still difficult to this day, especially in the church. Could there be a spirit of division behind it all? Our lead pastor believes so. Why is the idea of systemic racism too offensive for some to even consider? What role do politics play in how people process all of this?
Joel and Lynne, alongside multiple African-Americans who are a part of the Seacoast family, also share what the life and legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. means to them personally.
