"You lost today, kid. But that doesn't mean you have to like it."
With America in the midst of DIAL OF DESTINY fever, we decided to keep things topical for a consecutive week by discussing the third film in the series, INDIANA JONES AND THE LAST CRUSADE! John is once again joined by Simon and recurring special guest Tom. This is a film we all have fond memories of, so we spent a lot of time talking about this film's return to the lighter whimsy of RAIDERS; Sean Connery and the Father/Son dynamic (and the weird meta-casting in context to the Moore Bond vibes); the great prologue; the MANY goofs and gags; and discuss where this film ranks among the other Indiana Jones films.
Before the film, we talked about some news of the week, including: new releases; quick RIP to Alan Arkin; ongoing labour news; recent trailers; and we also discuss what we watched this week.
Tune in next week as we return to the Ridley Scott watch series to discuss WHITE SQUALL.

"This is the day you will always remember as the day you almost caught Captain Jack Sparrow!"
Avast ye hearties! Twenty years ago was the release of PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: CURSE OF THE BLACK PEARL, so we decided to celebrate the anniversary by making it the topic of today's episode. John is joined by Simon and recurring special guest Tom. We talk about the production of this film—from its origins as a humble adaptation of the namesake Disney ride to the big budget Bruckheimer produced swashbuckling epic. We also spent time talking about things we liked about this film on rewatch (and some stuff we were more critical of). As a brief spoiler note, we also touched a little bit on the sequels.
Before the film, we talked about some news of the week, including: our new Facebook group (see the notes below); our favourite films of 2023 (so far); new releases; anticipated releases for the rest of 2023; and we also discuss what we watched this week.
Tune in next week for another topical episode, as we discuss INDIANA JONES AND THE LAST CRUSADE!

They chat Columbus’ problematic legacy, Vangelis’ epic soundtrack, Scott’s ’90s film trajectory, and more. They also discuss the latest news, including an update on Julian Sands’ mysterious disappearance in the California mountains; Oliver Stone’s reaction to John Wick 4; James Cameron’s comments on the Titan submersible disaster; and the filming of Gladiator 2. " The way I see it, if you're gonna build a time machine into a car, why not do it with some *style?*"
Ever since The Seat Struck Movie Podcast began, John was itching to discuss his ALL TIME favourite film: BACK TO THE FUTURE. Guess what? That time has finally arrived! Joining this canon pick discussion is co-host Curtis (back from his trips to Eastern Europe and Ireland!) and John's brother Billy. We spend a lot of time covering this movie, discussing topics such as: our experience watching these movies as a kid; the movie as a contemporaneous 50s nostalgia vehicle, now turned 80s nostalgia vehicle; casting discussion and behind the scenes chatter (did you know Eric Stoltz was originally supposed to play Marty?); running through our favourite quotes and scenes; and of course, some minor sequel chatter. Honestly, we could have gabbed for another half hour, but when you don't have a DeLorean running at 88 MPH, you're a bit limited on time. Let's save that for when we revisit the sequels, shall we?
As a reminder, we have changed things up over the past couple of weeks. Instead of our usual discussion of watchlist additions or 'what we watched this week', we discuss the 'News of the Week' in the world of film and entertainment.

"Nobody's going to help a gaijin."
Continuing the Ridley Scott watch series, John and Curtis take on the underrated 1989 action film BLACK RAIN, starring Michael Douglas, Andy Garcia, Ken Takahura, Kate Capshaw, and the late but great Yūsaku Matsuda as the villainous "wild dog" Koji Sato. The boys talk about what they watched this week and their latest watchlist additions before discussing the movie. They chat about the action sequences, steamy Japan, cultural clashes, what makes this movie "dadcore," and find out why Scott didn't want to film in Japan again after BLACK RAIN.

This week on on the podcast we return to the Ridley Scott Watch Series to discuss the 1987 neo-noir film SOMEONE TO WATCH OVER ME, starring Tom Berenger, Lorraine Bracco, and Mimi Rogers. We chat about the return back to familiar genre beats that Scott explored in BLADE RUNNER, albeit in a 1980s New York City setting. We also discuss this film's place in the contemporaneous cinema landscape in relation to the 80s erotic thriller boom. According to Letterboxd, SOMEONE... is the least popular feature film in the Ridley Scott filmography (WHITE SQUALL heads stay WINNING). Is this forgotten flick worth checking out? We debate and give our scores. Before talking about the film, we discuss our latest additions to our watchlists and what recent stuff we watched.
Next week we return with another entry in the series, the Michael Douglas-led action thriller BLACK RAIN!
