  • Episode 85: STAR WARS (1977)

"A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away..." May the 4th be with you!

Curtis and special guest Grant revisit the original STAR WARS from 1977 (aka STAR WARS EPISODE IV: A NEW HOPE), the one that launched a gazillion sequels (and prequels). The boys discuss what they watched this week and their latest additions to the watchlist before diving in. They talk about their favourite Star Wars moments and characters, George Lucas' galactic world, and even touch on the dread Star Wars Holiday Special! Tune in to see why this movie's still wanted in seven galaxies!! "See STAR WARS! Fuck Ronald Reagan!"

Curtis will take the helm again next week for his next canon pick: 1977's ROLLING THUNDER, a midnight grindhouse delight starring William Devane and a young Tommy Lee Jones. It's one of Tarantino's favourite films and for good reason!

  • Episode 80: Ridley Scott Watch Series #3: BLADE RUNNER (1982)

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe... Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion... I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain... Time to die.

Curtis and John return to the next film of the Ridley Scott watch series with 1982's BLADE RUNNER! We chat about this cinematic ur-text of the 'cyberpunk' genre, which inspired many works in film (The Matrix, Akira) and video games (Metal Gear Solid, Deus Ex). We discuss the film's influence and exploration of industrial late-stage capitalist dystopia and the questions it raises around the nature of artificial intelligence and the emergent police state. Lots to chew on here! Before talking about the film, the boys also cover what they watched this week as well as their latest additions to their watchlists.
