  • Finding Her Own Ground, A'Lelia Bundles

In this episode, Kristin talks with A'Lelia Bundles. A'Lelia is the great-great-granddaughter of African-American entrepreneur, Madam CJ Walker, whose story was the inspiration for the Netflix series, Self-Made (originally published as On Her Own Ground). A'Lelia's great-grandmother, A'Lelia Walker, was an icon of the Harlem Renaissance.

But A'Lelia Bundles has spent her life finding her own ground, as an Emmy award-winning network TV news producer and journalist, an author and activist. A'Lelia has written several books about her fascinating family and keeps their legacy alive as founder of the Madam Walker Family Archives and brand historian for MCJW, a line of hair care products inspired by Madam Walker.

A'Lelia's latest book, The Joy Goddess of Harlem: A’Lelia Walker and the Harlem Renaissance, will be released in 2022. For more on A'Lelia, you can find her at www.aleliabundles.com. For more about Madam Walker, go to www.madamcjwalker.com

  • She's Got Skin in the Game, Gill Kirk

This week, Kristin combines two of her worlds speaking with Gill Kirk.

Despite a "humble Glaswegian working class" background, Gill has walked the halls of Oxford and Parliament. She’s set up her own business, written for corporations, stage and screen, and been a kickass single mum.

A perfect The Second Chapter guest indeed!

She’s also written Skin in the Game, the dark, hilarious climate-change play Kristin is producing at the New Wimbledon Studio theatre in November.

If Kristin's conversation with Gill whet your appetite for live theatre, you can find the ticket link here: https://www.atgtickets.com/shows/skin-in-the-game/studio-at-new-wimbledon-theatre/

We’re also halfway through a crowdfunder to ensure our cast and creatives can be paid more fairly than fringe theatre ticket sales allows. So if you’d like to support live theatre or just want to let us know that you’re enjoying The Second Chapter, please pledge what you can! https://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/skin-in-the-game

  • A Potted History- Debbie Page, Ceramist

This week Kristin speaks with Debbie Page. To say Debbie is a potter or a ceramist is an understatement. Despite finding a feel for clay in her early teens, it took her decades to make it her career. Now pots are Debbie’s life!

Don’t know what a moon jar is? Just love hearing some really uplifting chat from someone who has found their thing? Either way, you’re in the right place… this is Debbie Page!

Debbie Page is a studio potter, based in South Oxfordshire.

She was introduced to the joy of working with clay at school but it took another 20 years before she had the opportunity to really get to grips with the whole world of pottery. She developed an obsession with making teapots, fell in love with Jomon pottery, and spent a lot of time and effort learning to throw on the wheel only to discover, once she’d cracked it, that she prefers hand-building. Completely by chance, she found the pottery love of her life – the Korean Moon Jar, from someone who never made one.

  • The Artist on Her Photography, Janet Sternburg Part 2

This week Kristin concludes her talk with Janet Sternburg, focusing on Janet's latest chapter, photography. (Featured cover art in some players is Janet's photography)

Janet has led a very full life, personally and professionally. She’s survived cancer and earthquakes; is a fine art photographer, a writer of literary books, a maker of theatre and films, and an educator. To sum it all up, she calls herself (rightly) an artist.

In part one, Janet talked to Kristin about her early passion for writing, her pioneering book The Writer on Her Work ("groundbreaking . . . a landmark”), her love for New York and why she left it for LA. Now, her life has totally changed... and she's not finished yet.

Her latest book of photographs, I'VE BEEN WALKING Janet Sternburg Los Angeles Photographs, is being released on 21st October!

  • No Longer Paralysed by Fear, Jen Roehrig

This week I’m talking with brand new graduate (in her 40s), Jen Roehrig.

Jen was pursuing her first second chapter when a freak occurance left her unable to walk. After struggling with her mental health and feelings of fragility for nearly a decade, Jen decided at 40 that it was time to pursue her long-term dream of acting.

With an integrated masters degree in drama performance and touring theatre under her belt, Jen is now ready to take on the world- and in true The Second Chapter style, hopes to encourage other women over 35 to pursue their own dreams.

  • From Hiding in the Corner to Saying YES, Artist Jennifer Baker

This week Kristin chats with Jennifer Baker, who studied as an artist but found herself on a mountaintop in Italy, raising a family and living without her art. A successful translation business took her even further away from her original passion until Covid forced her to ask herself some tough questions.

Once she stopped hiding and started saying yes, the magic started happening...

My paintings are an ode to life, to becoming, and to majesty. They are a reminder to take a moment to release the trappings of the mundane, to look up, down, far, and close. To be still.

You can see Jennifer's paintings around the world at this point (!) and on her website at: https://www.jenniferbakerart.com/ or on Instagram here: www.instagram.com/jenniferbakerpaintings

  • Being Magnificent, The New 5ifty with Taiwo Dayo-Payne

Welcome to The Second Chapter Season 3 finale!

This week Kristin is joined by Taiwo Dayo-Payne. After speaking with Taiwo, we knew her story and her message had to end season 3.

Taiwo started out as an actor, but in a rare twist, found success to be less satisfying than she hoped and accidentally discovered her next steps through volunteering. Her latest chapter, The New 5ifty, finds her working with people approaching or in their middle years, helping them reconnect with their own passion and inspiring them to create their desired lifestyle as they evolve in the next chapter in their lives.

Taiwo's message is exciting, inspiring and rejuvenating. She will have you shouting for all to hear, "I AM magnificent!"
