The Selbyville Swamp Monster is a creature resembling Bigfoot that stalks the Great Cypress Swamp of Maryland and Delaware. The swamps here have a long, dark history of mysterious creatures, bootlegging, and slavery, and even the infamous hoax by Fred Stevens. Inspired by our recent Mammoth March hike, I looked into local Maryland and Delaware legends and found some truly spooky Bigfoot stories from the region. Two men see the dark figure of sasquatch on the side of the road while driving home one night, a woman on her way home from vacation sees a Bigfoot standing amongst the corn stalks in a cornfield, a student driving home from school one night sees Bigfoot standing by a telephone poll and sketches its face, a father and son spot two creatures crossing the road late one night, and two friends see a strange sasquatch with red eyes running across the road on all fours. Do you think Bigfoot roams the swamplands of the Delmarva Peninsula?
