Elisha sends a prophet to anoint Jehu king over Israel and the prophet prophecies that he is to cut off the house of Ahab according to the word of the Lord because of their wickedness. Jehu rides in haste immediately and slays Joram and then proceeds to Jezrael to slay Queen Jezabel the wife of Ahab.

After a seven year famine ended, Elisha goes to the king of Syria and prophecies to Azael, his servant, that he will be made king of Syria and he will come to war against Israel in a desperately wicked manner. Elisha wept having seen the prophecy. The next day Azael murders his master, ascends to the throne, and later wars against Israel.

Elisha told the messenger that the king sent (to kill him) that on the morrow prices would return to normal and everyone in Samaria would eat. Because the man disbelieved he was condemned to die only seeing the miracle without partaking of it. And that night lepers plotted to surrender themselves to Samaria in hopes they would be spared. But God made the Syrians to hear an army and they fled leaving all their possessions behind in panic. The lepers then told Samaria who entered the enemy camp collected the plunder and were thus saved.

This chapter opens with several miracles of Elisha, but closes with the story of Samaria being besieged by Syria as a judgement from God for Israel's wickedness; particularly that of her king. Two mothers plead to the king of Israel for help arbitrating the case wherein one mother suggested to the other that they eat their sons. The second mother agreed and afterwards the first mother hid her son. So tThe king of Israel dispatches an emissary to behead Elisha.

Naaman they Syrian hears there is a prophet in Israel who can heal leprosy and so he obtains permission and provision from the king to go and be healed of his uncleanness. Elisha sends a servant who informs him to dip himself in the Jordan river and be healed. Afterward Elisha refuses to accept a reward from Naaman, but Gehazi pursues him and lies and thus is cursed to carry Naaman's leprosy for ever.

The chapter begins with Elisha telling a woman to gather empty vessels and to miraculously pour out oil into them from one vessel until all the others are full. Afterwards she sells the oil, pays the creditors and retires on the rest. The second woman cared for Elisha and he thus blessed her with both a miraculous birth and resurrection.

Moab stopped paying tribute to Israel after Ahab died. So the kings of Israel, Edom and Jerusalem went to war against Moab. They enquired of Elisha as to whether they would succeed and also asked for a miracle to preserve the armies in the midst of the desert with no water. He commanded them to dig trenches and God would fill them with water and give Moab into their hands.

The day came when Elijah was to be taken up to heaven and all the prophets knew and Elisha knew and he remained with him. Elijah then asked Elisha what he could do for him. And he asked for a double portion of Elijah's spirit, which he received.

Elijah calls fire down on 100 men and 2 captains sent to collect him and bring him to the king. When he goes with the third man who humbled himself, he tells the king he will die and so he does.

Jehosaphat and Ahab form an alliance to go up against Syria to recover Ramath Giliad, but first enquire of the Lord by the prophets. Only one prophet knew the truth, all the others had been deceived by a lying spirit to advise Ahab to go into battle to be slain fulfilling prophecy. Ahab convinced Jehosphat to wear his clothes and he then dresses as a warrior going into battle and is shot in the chest by an expert marksman. Ahab dies, and when his chariot is washed out, the dogs lick up the blood and the harlots washed themselves in his blood at the well as foretold.
