In this chapter, before battling Jericho Jesus first circumcises all those who were born in the way by the wilderness during the forty years of wandering.

When the priests carrying the Ark of God enter the Jordan it immediately dries up and the ground becomes hard. They wait in the middle until Israel crosses over and then set up twelve memorial stones and after they leave the river bed, the water rushes back in.

Jesus and Israel cross the Jordan on dry ground. God dries up the water during the wet season as a miracle designed to exalt Jesus before Israel.

Jesus dispatched two spies to Jericho to spy out the land. The king of Jericho heard of it and sent to have them captured. But they were hidden by Rahab (Raab) the harlot who charged them to save her and her family because the inhabitants of Jericho fear Israel greatly and their hearts melted upon hearing the news that Israel was coming for them.

In this chapter, God tells Jesus that he will divide up Israel's inheritance and give it to them.

God brings Moses up on a mountain to see the land of Canaan before dying and joining his fathers.

Before Moses dies, he gives a blessing and a prophecy to the twelve tribes of Israel.

In this chapter God teaches Moses a song filled with the history of Israel with the warnings of the curses that would come upon them for disobedience. That when they sing it in their latter days they should repent and return and worship the God of their fathers: Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob.

Even on the day Israel is about to go into the promised land, God tells Moses that he knows what some of them are doing, provoking him to anger. And he prophecies that Israel will turn away from him and serve strange gods. And so he charges Moses to write a song before he dies that will stand as a witness against them bringing their future generations to awareness of their guilt before God.

Moses charges Jesus (Joshua) to be courageous and take Israel across the Jordan, where God will fight their enemies and bring them into their inheritance, which Jesus will give to them.
