In this chapter Moses reminds Israel of their history sharing with them his perspective. Explaining the number of times he prayed and fasted for them for their disobedient stiff-knecked behavior that nearly made them an extinct people to be replaced by the line of Moses. Essentially the message is that God didn't save and bless Israel because they are good. He did so because he is good.

As a father chastens his children so also God afflicts his children to bring to the surface their sinfulness that it can be rooted and to produce a holy people.

God commands Israel to destroy their enemies utterly. They are to go against seven nations that are stronger and more numerous. God chose Israel, not because of their number (they were the smallest nation), he chose them because he loved them.

After reminding Israel what God did for them in Egypt, he charges them to obey God's ordinances which were written for their good. That he should give them their inheritance and they not squander it in sin.

In this account, we get details about the day Israel received the Ten Commandments from God in Horeb at Mount Sinai. When they heard the voice of the Lord they feared they would die and begged Moses to be an intermediary.

Moses reminds Israel of what they've been through and warns them to avoid idolatry or they will become like the nations they have destroyed. He reminds them that God is merciful and will have pity upon them if they return to him, but charges them not to turn away lest they become like Og King of Basan and Seon king of the Amorites.

This chapter contains a log of the battles that Israel fought against the giants in the wilderness.

This chapter gives a history of the peoples and nations that Israel fought in the wilderness. It also identifies the nations and territories they were forbidden to war against (the desendants of Lot and Esau).

In this chapter Moses recounts Israel's history of disobedience. It is a reminder to them before they cross the river Jordan that the reason they wandered forty years in the wilderness was because they failed to trust in the Lord. Suggesting they better not repeat their mistake this time.

Due to Israel's permanent inheritance laws, special provisions were made for the daughters of Salpaad (who had no brother). They could inherit their father's property, but must marry within their tribe so that inheritances didn't transfer from tribe to tribe.
