World War One was a real boom time across Europe, which can be easy to forget – unless you were near Silvertown after the war and your ears won’t stop ringing. This is the story of the single largest explosion to ever occur in the United Kingdom - which is saying a lot. Amazingly, because today’s disaster involved the military, no one heard about it for fifty years. It got a little hushed up for reasons of National Security, which doesn’t bring a lot of comfort to those left in its wake scratching their partial heads. It’s a perfectly gory example of the needs of the many vs the needs of the view in this explosive episode of Doomsday.
