The life expectancy for all Americans has decreased as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Even more striking is that the decrease for Black Americans is 3 times that of White Americans. On social media, I saw some disparaging remarks about the focus on race when discussing these topics. Even in such a racially tense climate, we are still largely uncomfortable with this topic, and it is often dismissed. It is time we have a frank and ongoing discussion about the very real effect race has on our well-being.
PBS News Hour: “COVID-19 has already cut U.S. life expectancy by a year. For Black Americans, it’s worse. “

I am so excited to bring you this episode! I met Dr. Dolapo Babalola when we both joined the amazing podcast launch course created by Dr. Charmaine Gregory. We have become friends and supported each other as we embarked on our new journeys into podcasting. Interestingly, early on, Dr. Babalola identified our mutual passions for holistic health and teaching our patients and clients to live at their finest, in God's way. The rest was history! I was so honored to be a guest on her podcast in October 2020, and am so elated to have her share her wisdom on mine.

Amazingly, she was able to also influence her family to make significant changes as well. Akilah is very transparent about her struggles with food and the key tools that have empowered her to make better choices overall.

We have arrived at the end of 2020! While I thought I would have other words to describe the roller coaster it was, I landed on gratitude. This year, I have reached new personal heights and (virtually) met so many beautiful people. Most importantly, I truly learned a lot about myself and what I want in my life. In this episode, I wanted to express my gratitude for all that this year has revealed and what is to come in 2021.
My sincerest thanks go to you, the Pivot & Bloom tribe of listeners, who have followed me along on this journey. But, have no fear, we are just getting started! ❤️
Happy New Year!
