The Slowdown episodes

  • 42. Feeling overwhelmed? Maybe it's time to create some space.

Do you ever feel like every bit of space in your life is filled? Your calendar, your home, your mind... there's always something to do, think about, or take care of.

Sometimes, when we're feeling overwhelmed, what we need isn't another routine, another tool, or another thing to add to our to-do list. Maybe we just need a little more space.

In this episode, I'm sharing my intention for November: clear. An invitation to notice what I'm holding onto, let go of what no longer feels aligned, and make room for something new.

We're exploring what it means to create space in our everyday lives, why it can be so important during times of change, and what might become possible when we stop feeling the need to fill every available moment.

I'm also sharing a simple somatic practice called Energetic Sweeping to help you connect with your body, release some of what you're carrying, and create a little more space within yourself.

    In this episode:

    • Creating space when life feels full and overwhelming

    • Letting go of routines, expectations, and things that no longer feel aligned

    • Finding groundedness through seasons of change and uncertainty

    • Making room for new possibilities without rushing to fill the space

    • A simple somatic practice to help you release and reconnect with yourself

A little update from Embodied Journey

My 1:1 sessions have a new name! Previously called Embodiment Sessions, they're now Nervous System Support Sessions.

These private sessions offer a space to step out of the constant doing, thinking, planning, and caring for everyone else. Through gentle, body-based practices, we'll explore what you need in the moment, whether that's slowing down, settling, or reconnecting with your energy and aliveness.

Sessions are available online and in person.

  • 41. Reflections After A Women's Retreat

What does it feel like to let yourself be supported?

After a weekend at our annual women's retreat, I'm reflecting on the importance of spaces where we can show up as we are, feel seen, and reconnect with ourselves and others.

In this episode, I share my own journey of learning to recognize what I need, trust myself enough to ask for it, and become more comfortable receiving support. We explore why this can feel vulnerable, especially when we're used to being the ones who hold everything together.

Plus, a gentle somatic practice to help you connect with yourself through your voice and explore what it feels like to let yourself be heard.

A little something to reflect on: How comfortable are you with receiving a compliment, a helping hand, or support when you need it?

  • 40. If You’re Always in a Rush, Start Here. Let's practice together.

Do you ever feel like you’re rushing through life, even when there’s no real reason to hurry? From moving through your to-do list to struggling to rest without feeling unproductive, urgency can become such a familiar part of everyday life that we barely notice it.

In this episode of The Slowdown Podcast, we’re exploring what happens when we slow down enough to notice how we’re actually feeling. We’ll talk about the pressure to always be doing, why rest can feel uncomfortable, and how we can begin to shift these patterns with curiosity and compassion.

Then, join me for a gentle somatic movement practice using slow, mindful hip circles to explore what it feels like to move at a different pace. This simple, body-based practice invites you to notice your sensations, emotions, and impulses without needing to change or fix anything.

You don’t need a lengthy morning routine or a complete life overhaul to begin slowing down. Sometimes, all it takes is a breath, a moment of awareness, or the willingness to stay for one more moment.

    In this episode, we explore:

    • Why rushing and urgency can become our default

    • How to recognize the signs of rushing in your everyday life

    • Why slowing down and restorative yoga can feel surprisingly uncomfortable

    • How to build awareness of your thoughts, emotions, and body sensations

    • A gentle somatic movement practice to help you explore a slower pace

    • Simple ways to bring more presence and intention into your daily routines

As you move through your week, notice when you’re rushing. You don’t have to change anything right away. Just notice.

Work with me: I offer online and in-person embodiment coaching to help you slow down, reconnect with your body, and better understand yourself.

  • 39. Give Me A Sign-ier Sign

Have you ever asked for a sign and then had a moment that felt almost too perfectly timed to ignore?

In this week's episode, I'm sharing a personal experience from a getaway that left me thinking about spirituality, synchronicity, and what happens when we stay open to the unexpected.

I'm also reflecting on how we can bring more openness, gratitude, and connection into our everyday lives, even when we're back in the middle of our usual routines.

    In this episode, we explore:

    • Noticing signs, synchronicities, and meaningful moments

    • Connecting with spirituality in your own way

    • Being curious about what catches your attention

    • Looking for the good without ignoring the hard things

    • Bringing a little more openness into everyday life

A little invitation for this week: look up, pay attention, and see what you notice when you give yourself a little more room to be open.

  • 38. What If We Stopped Trying to Relax?

In this week’s episode of The Slowdown Podcast, we’re exploring what happens when we stop trying so hard to relax.

Restorative yoga is often associated with feeling calm, peaceful, and rested. But sometimes, when we finally slow down and give the body space to be still, we notice just how much is happening beneath the surface. Our thoughts might get louder. We might notice tension, sensations, emotions, restlessness, or how difficult it can be to simply stop doing.

In this episode, I’m talking about restorative yoga, slowing down, body awareness, and why we don’t always need to make relaxation the goal. Instead, we can practice becoming more familiar with our own experience. Noticing what’s here without immediately trying to change it.

We’ll explore what happens when we create space to listen to both the mind and body, and how this can become a practice of deeper self-connection.

    In this episode:

    • Why slowing down can sometimes feel harder than expected

    • What restorative yoga can teach us about being still

    • The connection between body awareness and self-connection

    • Why you don’t need to clear your mind to practice mindfulness

    • Learning to notice thoughts, sensations, emotions, and energy without needing to fix them

    • Practicing being with the whole range of your experience, not just the parts that feel comfortable

And at the end, I’ll guide you through a 5 minute meditation to practice noticing what happens when you stop trying.

  • 37. When Your To-Do List Follows You Everywhere

Ever feel like your to-do list is running in the back of your mind, even when you’re supposed to be relaxing?

In this episode, I’m talking about the mental load that can come with busy seasons of life, and how stress and overwhelm can start to show up in our bodies, mood, and energy.

We’ll talk about noticing the signs that you’re feeling stretched thin, tending to the basics, and using self-awareness to better understand what you need — rather than immediately trying to fix everything.

Plus, a simple somatic practice you can try when your mind feels busy: chest tapping.

  • 36. Want To Feel Better? Me Too. Let's Start Here.

In this week’s episode, we’re coming back to the basics.

Before adding another routine, wellness hack, or tool to your life, what if you paused to notice the foundations underneath it all? I’ve been asking myself these questions:

    • How rested do I feel?

    • How does my body feel after the food I'm eating?

    • Am I thirsty?

    • What kind of movement feels good for my body right now?

    • Have I spent any time outside lately?

    • Have I given myself any space to pause and actually check in with myself?

We’ll talk about noticing these things without turning them into another reason to judge yourself, and why curiosity and compassion can create more sustainable change.

I’ll also guide you through a simple somatic practice called Finding a little support — using a pillow, gentle pressure, breath, and releasing tension in the face and body.

A reminder that sometimes the simplest things can be supportive.

  • 35. Before You Start a New Routine, Ask Yourself This

September can bring a strong desire to start fresh. New routines. New habits. New goals. A little more structure.

And there’s nothing wrong with that. But before we jump into changing everything, what if we paused to get curious about why we want to change in the first place?

In this episode, I’m reflecting on the transition from summer into fall, the idea of September as a “return to yourself” kind of month, and the difference between making changes from self-love versus trying to fix something we don’t like about ourselves.

    We’ll explore:

    • What’s underneath your desire to change

    • The emotions and beliefs that can drive new habits

    • Whether you’re moving toward something you want or away from something you don’t like

    • The cycle of starting new routines, falling off, and feeling like you’ve failed

    • What it might look like to meet yourself where you are instead

    • How self-connection can help us make choices that actually support us in the season we’re in

Then, we’ll move into a short somatic practice together—a few minutes of gentle, intuitive movement and noticing.

  • 34. What If Transitions Could Be Easier?

We're heading into the final days of August, and with September comes that familiar feeling of transition. Changing routines, cooler weather, kids heading back to school, and the feeling that something is shifting.

Sometimes it feels like everything is changing at once.

In this episode, I’m reflecting on the many emotions that can come with transition. The excitement and fear, gratitude and sadness, readiness and grief. We often look for one clear way we're supposed to feel, but what if we made space for all of it?

Rather than trying to figure out how we should feel, we can get curious about what's actually here.

What am I feeling? How am I showing up right now? What do I need?

The more we get to know ourselves, the more we can meet ourselves where we are... even when where we are keeps changing.

Then, we'll move into a short somatic practice focused on finding an external resource. You'll be guided to choose something comforting like a soft blanket, warm drink, favourite sweater, something from nature, and notice what happens in your body as you allow yourself to receive that sense of comfort and support.

This is a simple practice of noticing what helps you soften, settle, and feel a little more supported.

    In this episode:

    • Moving through seasons of transition

    • Making space for conflicting emotions

    • Letting go of how we think we're supposed to feel

    • Getting curious about our moment-to-moment experience

    • A guided somatic practice for connecting with an external resource

And maybe you don't need to have the answer right away. You can simply listen.

  • 33. What If We Looked for Delight?

In this episode of The Slowdown, we’re exploring what happens when we intentionally orient toward delight. Our attention is constantly being pulled in a thousand directions, but what if we practiced noticing the things that make us smile, spark our curiosity, or make us feel a little more alive?

We’ll explore delight, our nervous system’s natural tendency to orient towards what's familiar, and how we can begin creating new patterns around what we notice. We’ll also talk about dreaming, the protective parts of us that may tell us what’s unrealistic, and meeting those parts with compassion rather than pushing them away.

The practice for this week is mindfulness. We’ll slow down together and use the breath as an anchor for coming back to the present moment.

A simple invitation to carry with you this week: What if I looked for delight here?
